Aaron Ward of TSN thinks that the NHLPA will strongly consider inviting David Backes, Kevin Westgarth, Ron Hainsey, Craig Adams, George Parros, Manny Malhotra and Mattheiu Darche to the meeting with the owners tomorrow.
He thinks that these players, since they have been involved in the process and understand the issues, are more important to have than “star power” which he says is secondary.
Jonathon Toews and Sidney Crosby will be in New York but they aren’t guaranteed of attending the meeting.
Nick Cotsonika disagrees with Ward and thinks that the NHL should send the bigger name players because they can bring a fresher voice and the owners want the big revenue generating players involved and educated on what is going on.
Andy Strickland says that he would like to see the NHLPA counter each owner with one of his players. He lists Jarome Iginla, Sidney Crosby, Milan Lucic and Marty St. Louis as guys who should be involved in the meeting. Ron Hainsey plays for Winnipeg.
Darren Dreger has suggested that Toews could be the key as “he’s been a consistent no-nonsense hardline guy.”
Katie Strang says that Westgarth is respected by both sides and should also be involved.
