Read: The World Championships Could Have An Olympic Feel This Year

At ESPN.com, Pierre LeBrun writes that if the NHL season is cancelled then the annual World Championships this spring will have a very different feel than usual.

The World Championships take place during the playoffs so the top players usually don’t participate but that would change if there are no playoffs this year and the lockout takes out the whole season.

LeBrun speculates that the World Championships this spring would be similar to the tournament in 2005 which featured Rick Nash, Joe Thornton, Pavel Datsyuk and other locked out NHLers.

He writes “just consider it an Olympic tournament less than a year before the real Olympic tournament in Sochi, Russia.”

The World Championships take place in Stockholm and Helsinki and start on May 3.

@tsjc68 I assume the NFL would start fining the team for all the footballs deflated by Mo's boot.

@tsjc68 We're ready for you to get back in there, too, big fella.

@Brendan  I love me some KMart, but you could find a source who knows this, standing on a line waiting for Government Cheese.

Idzik's consulting role with the Jags:

Caldwell: What would you do here, John?

Idzik: I'd pick Gregory.

Caldwell: Well then Dante Fowler it is.

McGeorge

@Brendan @DRFC The Jags fired their prior GM who was worse than Idzik.  Their new regime might just be abysmal, which is a big step up from what it was before.

Brendan
Brendan

@DRFC To be fair, the Jags might be worse than the Jets when it comes to drafting. This might technically be an upgrade, so yay Jags?

This is going to hurt Shahid Khan in the NFL owner power rankings.

@williamg1 Yeah I just meant he's not 1st by a landslide anymore. His mustache alone would be in the top-10 owners.

Caldwell and Idzik were once both being considered for the Jets GM job. Now Idzik will fetch coffee for Caldwell.

Good for him. He did a good job of budgeting the cap and focusing on giving the young team last season a shot proving their worth. I have a good feeling DMill, Mac, Shaq, Enunawa, Pryor and Amaro will contribute to the team next season and beyond.

@Pete 57 What is "dumb"? because I feel that Idzik had a plan? C'mon now.

@Pete 57 New poster? No, new poster here buddy. Been here from since the beginning before most here were ever commenting.

@hitchhiker " it is complete BS to claim his drops were anyone's fault but his own."

Now who's fighting strawmen, hh?

bharper42
bharper42

@hitchhiker he drafted them because rex wanted them.  and if you read what i said idzik failed because he didn't take any WR of note.  just some scrubs.  reading comprehension.

hitchhiker
hitchhiker

@Brendan do you not understand how verb tenses work? Commenting on past performance does not equal commenting on potential future performance.

Or are you are still compulsively defending Idzik & relying on straw man arguments to do so?

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 I assume by that they meant he would have been cut and put on the PS?

I mean, we saw him for like 10 minutes, so I don't know how we can really state that with any certainty. It makes sense that they'd PS stash him if he was healthy since he was at such a disadvantage being behind everyone else.

hitchhiker
hitchhiker

@Brendan well **you** may feel it is "unfair" to judge Shaq Evans on his contributions last year, but that is not what happens in the real world.

Evans impressed no one, & it is complete BS to claim his drops were anyone's fault but his own.

@Pete 57 I will agree. With that having been said, we are NY Jets fans. The toughest in the business.

@Brendan & he was dropping passes the entire, albeit short, time he was healthy.

Brendan

@hitchhiker Evans was injured the whole season and missed the entire spring because he was finishing class. I don't think we know what he was because we barely saw him.

hitchhiker
hitchhiker

@Brendan no we dont know if Evans & Enunwa **are** terrible, but we do know they **were** terrible last year.

hitchhiker
hitchhiker

@bharper42 that comment makes little sense. Idzik drafted 3 WRs who were terrible, including 1 that was reported to lie to the coaching staff when the coaches wanted Martavus Bryant.

Idzik's top 3 CB additions have been complete failures due to injuries & a mental breakdown.

His 2nd biggest FA signing on offense was a flop (CJ0.6K).

Idzik was awful & got what he deserved.

williamg1
williamg1

He didn't do a good job budgeting the cap. He made the same 4 cuts that any of us would have made to free up the cash. After that, he failed to close FA deals. Leaving us the cap space was brought on by incompetence.

Pete 57

And for the record I disagree with Bronson's assertion as well.

But William, do you agree with my assertion? I picture some of the posters here just waiting for someone to post something "Dumb" or illogical.

No?

Pete 57

It's really difficult for someone new to come on this blog and post. I can't count how many times over the last couple of years that I've seen a new poster be hammered for their opinion.

Not saying it's good or bad, right or wrong, just an observation.

Well he doesn't post here very often. Maybe he peaks his head in once in a while to see if it's safe.

DRFC

@williamg1 Yeah. I guess he thinks 'budgeting' is the same as 'saving'. Budgeting is properly allocating your money for your needs. The Jets had and still have gaping holes and Idzik decided to not address them, and it's why he lost his job.

The silver lining is that his incompetence and poor budgeting gives Macc the money he should have spent to make the team better instead of worse. But that's no reason to applaud him for what he did.

bharper42
bharper42

@DRFC @williamg1 And who was he going to spend the money on?  Alteraun verner wasn't a fit because of rex, DRC is overpriced, Acro was bad the prior year. He gave rex everything he wanted and saved money.  sheldon, milner, pryor, mcdougle in the draft for rex to play with.  rex failed and the players were injury prone pieces of glass.  That's where idzik went wrong.  he gave rex what he wanted.

We know he should've drafted WR but rex needed another CB.  We know he should've spent some more FA money on WR and then drafted the best available CB/DB in the draft but he didn't.

I blame the coaching staff for their incessant need/fix on one position group.  in the end his downfall was his willngness to give his failed coaching staff what they wanted instead of doing what was necessary.  not an idzik fan btw.  he's just not as bad as you say he is.  Rex et al had a lot to do with it.

Brendan
Brendan

@hitchhiker Well, to be fair we don't know for sure that Enunwa/Evans are terrible. They're not promising at the moment, but they're still both just 2nd year players and could become useful.

@hitchhiker  I am saying you can't say a guy sucked when he practiced for like two weeks and got hurt.

This isn't defending Idzik It's saying "a guy got hurt in TC after starting behind the 8ball. Are you still compulsively going to go into "everything sucks" mode whenever anything relating to Idzik is mentioned? I'm not making any strawman arguments, don't imply that I am, please.

bharper42
bharper42

@hitchhiker i find it ironic that you question people's comprehension and argumentative skills yet you have comprehension issues yourself.

as i said not an idzik fan i'm just not an extremist hater like you.

he failed collaboratively with rex.  his downfall was not drafting for need or playing FA for need i.e. WR, cb and instead drafting S, TE, and broken CB.  he did that because rex wanted that along with all the other fail coaches on his staff.  his failure was not having any backbone.

again not an idzik fan just so it's clear to you.  but he didn't fail alone.  he failed with rex and all the rest of the junk we had in the FO and coaching staff.

is that clear?

BronsonSNY
BronsonSNY

@hitchhiker What three WR were awful? Jalen was mainly cut due to the depth and players before him; Shaq's season was done before camp even concluded and Enunawa missed most of the season due to domestic case. If by failures you mean Pryor and McDougle, you have a very good foresight into the future. Many say CJ underperformed but at the end of the day he saw less snaps and had a bad o-line. You guys are just too quick to make judgement. How are you going to say these players are going to failures when they haven't even made it their sophomore season? Idzik would've probably done a better job with a fresh start this season.

BronsonSNY
BronsonSNY

@Pete 57 "Well he doesn't post here very often. Maybe he peaks his head in once in a while to see if it's safe." As I've said, been here long enough. Don't need to 'peak' my head to see if anything is safe. Your response and questioning of my profile here as a poster is based off the fact that i disagree with most here on Idzik strategy as GM.
