Read: The Two Sides Can’t Even Agree On If There Was A Meeting This Morning (Updates)

10:59AM: Dreger tells Garrioch “In fairness, I may have misunderstood a brief text. Could have been a player mtng or player-mediator mtng.”

10:58AM: Darren Dreger sent out this tweet at 10:48AM:

League and PA brass met this morning, however no decision has been made on a more formal meeting later today.

At 10:56AM Dreger sent out this tweet:

Well, one side says there was a meeting this am and now the other side says there wasn’t. Somewhat humorous.

On the negotiating session yesterday, Brendan Morrison said “I think discouraged is a good word. Frustrated. It’s bargaining. There has to be give and take. I thought the gap would be closed much quicker, but it hasn’t come to fruition yet, so we have to keep working.”

John Shannon of Sportsnet says that the NHL is on “stand by” to meet with the NHLPA and the mediators.

I actually like that the Jets are looking at defensive-minded coaches in that this is the current team's overall strength and rebuilding the offense is something he can recruit astute talent on-field and on the sidelines to HELP do; much of the attention needs to be directed there as opposed to the defense at this point.  Hopefully the Jets are looking at coaches whose overall strength at managing the entire team overrides their subset experience with offense or defense.  Basically, Rex, but Not Rex; potentially good or great coach with a mind for the entire game and not channel-locked onto one side of he ball and mismanaging clock situations that everyone will run through walls for without being pampered first.  I understand the Woody-As-A-Liability meme, but up until now we're only speculating as Woody-Casserly-Wolf have said nothing and done much.  Just shut the hell up and do your job is a actually good approach to their situation.

Another 4-3 DC.  My only issue with his 4-3, as opposed to Quinn's, is the Jets don't have a Luke Kuechly on the roster.  I have no way of evaluating how dependent his schemes are on the dominant play of an MLB.  Other than that, Carolina has had a very good defense for a few seasons now and had to deal with the Hardy situation and a suspect secondary.

Are there no up and coming OCs who can make the leap to HC?

Find the timing, not the choices, a little curious.   Is Woody hedging his bet on Quinn with Bowles and McDermott?   Just in case things go south with Quinn or he opts for maybe the 49ers or Bears between now and the time we can seal the deal with him?   Or is Bowles or McDermott more to Maccagnan's liking?

why interview mcdermott?  who's he?  not interested

Is 57 still around? I'd like his thoughts on whether or not Russ Wilson is a good QB yet.

@hazard2012 I'm guessing a combination... Maccagnan probably likes Quinn just fine but now that he is the GM, he probably wants to kick the tires on some other people he likes... because it's his choice, and because Quinnn is no lock.

Brendan
Brendan

@bharper42 He's a guy who put together a top-10 defense without Greg Hardy or pretty much any semblance of a good secondary.

@Brendan I was one who said he is nothing special but man he played great this weekend.

bharper42

@Brendan @bharper42 so what that doesn't automatically put you on a list to be HC.  i'd take marrone over him and i don't even like marrone.  this is why i wanted seattle to lose so we can just sign quinn and get it over with.

"Why interview this person that I know nothing about?  Knowing nothing about him, I'm going to declare that I don't want him."

... aaaaaaaand, SCENE!

@levi 57 has argued with me many times about Wilson not being that good. I'm not even doing an "I told you so" to be a dck, I honestly want to know if Wilson's recent run (during which he's played near-perfect football) has swayed his opinion at all.

Brendan
Brendan

@bharper42 You've done zero research on a guy but decided already you don't like him. That's the point tsjc and myself are making.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Aren't both McDermott and Quinn agressive on defense too, though?

@Brendan @levi

FWIW, my opinion about Wilson hasn't changed all that much.

He is still an average pocket passer  from what I see. His play extending ability is what makes him so good.

@Brendan @levi

Fun Fact:

Since the merger, amongst all QBs who have thrown at least 100 pass attempts, Russell Wilson's career 109.6 passer rating is the second best in NFL history (behind only the coked-out acid trip of Jeff Hostetler, 1990-1993).

That includes this weekend's games.

@Brendan @Disgruntled Jets Fan

I'm still here.

I am on record as saying that Wilson reminds me a lot of Fran Tarkenton.

Other than Namath, Tarkenton was my favorite QB growing up so that is saying a lot for me.

Wilson has an innate ability not to take a big hit and that is a big plus for him.

Without his movement skills he would be an average QB, with them, he is border line elite.

@Brendan @bharper42 what research do i need.  Carolina is bad, never the top unit, how many wins did his unit deliver, and when did they stop or dominate great qbs/offenses.  I think he's average.  If they want to interview him fine they should do their DD.

And so what if i said i don't want him.  how did that make you feel? Deep breaths deep breaths and take your mind to a happy place.

@bharper42 You really want to do this? *sigh* okay.

" Carolina is bad, never the top unit"

Oh, hey, THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO DO YOUR RESEARCH. They've been a top-10 unit the past three years, this year without their best player (by a country mile).

"and when did they stop or dominate great qbs/offenses"

Wrong. Go look at 2013, please.

"I think he's average."

I know you do, based on nothing other than your personal feelings which aren't based on facts or statistics.

@levi @Brendan  Quick! Name someone in the NFL no one here knows much about and I'll tell you right away if they are more qualified to be a head coach than Doug Marrone. It's a talent I have.

Brendan

@tsjc68 I don't know much about McDermott's personality, but I know that Bowles is a laid back guy. Quinn seems a bit more agro.

@tsjc68  Yup, you can play basketball in there.

@Brendan @bharper42 top 10 doesn't mean it's the top unit ala seattle.  yes i want to do this.  you've proven nothing i said wrong.  If you want him fine.  even marrone is better imo.  and what happened in 2013?  nothing.  quinn and bowles units have carried the team when it needed it.  I don't see anything that stands out with this unit.  yet you're satisfied because of some numbers.

my facts are what you're saying they are a top 10 unit but not the top, a 7-9 team in a bad division, a good not great d.  sorry average in my book.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Brendan @tsjc68

Bowles is mad chill, but he loves to unleash the hounds on the field, not unlike Quinn or McDermott.

Brendan
Brendan

@tsjc68 That is a perfect pass. I just keep watching it on a loop. Kearse would have caught it if he didn't even have his eyes open, it was that perfect.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Without differentiating that between TTP inside the pocket vs. TTP outside it, that information won't be very useful.

Brendan

@bharper42 Holy christ.

I don't want him, I want you to be a big boy and research your posts before shouting others down.

And does it really need to be explained to you how a top defense can still not win a ton of games? I mean, seriously? You're a Jets fan and you don't know this already?

Brendan
Brendan

@bharper42 Because it's obvious? You say things that are factually and provably false.

bharper42
bharper42

@Brendan @bharper42 non sense nothing i said is disprovable.  and what i said is also obvious.  And my initial "who's he" was a rhetorical question.  and i'm still not interested.
