Read: The Great One Thinks That Hockey Could Be Played Within Six Weeks

This morning Wayne Gretzky was on SportsNet radio in Canada and spoke about the lockout.

He told Brady and Lang that he thinks that a deal could be done soon and a season starting soon after.

Gretzky said, “My gut still tells me that over the next six weeks I think that they will get a deal done, and I think there’s too many people that want to play, and I still see hockey being played come January for a 40- or 50-game schedule. Let’s all try and stay positive and hopefully the two sides can come to an agreement and get hockey back in the sports pages and away from the business pages.”

Gretzky adds that “the game survives because its an incredible game.”

Im curious to see how Rex schemes to help the CB's today. With Walls out of an already ridiculously bad secondary this could get ugly fast. There will be blown coverages with all these new guys out there. If he leaves these newbies on an island he deserves to get burned.

I think we should pay heavy attention to the coaching today. Is MM doing a good job of getting the ball in the hands of his play makers? Can Rex scheme to help the Secondary? Does Rex still have the team playing hard for him? How many penalties before someone is held accountable? Do we see yet another issue with clock management? How about another stupid trick play?

The question is: Suck for the Duck or blow for the Seminole?

rexryguy

please keep vick healthy we dont wana see simms out there today

@rexryguy I want to see Simms, I would like to see what he has with first team reps and adequete preperation, I think he won't be that much worst then Geno or Vick at worst, and at best he may be able to provide a spark.

levi
levi

@rexryguy Why not? Are you afraid he would turn the ball over 6 times or something?

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

Whatever it takes to get that #1 pick. If it's Simms, then put him in.

@MikeFrancesser Winston scares me, I can't help but think about Jamarcus Russel when considering the prospect of drafting Winston. Like Winston Russel's talent was bar none the best in his class, he had an excellent pro day had all of the physical tools but there was something not right upstairs, can someone tell me if they see the same thing or they see things differently and this isn't a good comparison?

rexryguy

@MikeFrancesser I dont want either but I dont think mariotta would  fit in our offense as well at all. Outside of percy our personnel is more set for a pro style offense rather than a spread.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@rexryguy yea and at worse were stuck playing him all game and lose 50 to nothing again. Than for the next week our fans and every football fan makes fun of us furthering the circus act. than what do we do the next game? vick? geno? simms? its a joke

rexryguy
rexryguy

@levi @rexryguy i mean he was a backup to geno and vick for a reason. so yea i am afraid it will be worse than both of them.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

Well, that's up to the team to determine whether he is a complete nut job or just young and stupid.  If t's the latter, then they would be utterly foolish to pass on him.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@MikeFrancesser neither are top prospects which is why tanking is even dumber than it would normally be

@rexryguy It doesn't matter, this season is lost, it's all about next season, Geno has proven he isn't the guy going forward and is a career backup at best, Vick is a shadow of his former self, we cannot rely on him because he is injury prone and is old, the one guy who hasn't gotten a fair shot so far is Simms, why not try to get him some time, some practice and preperation for the upcoming weeks, allow him to get in sync with some of those receivers, then perhaps this season wont be wasted, because at the very least we were able to do a proper evaluation of every player on the roster, this is as important if not more then winning right now.

What will playing Vick do for us? Do you think he's our future at QB? The best scenario is to get the highest draft pick possible and cleaning house as far as GM and HC. Playing Simms would also give them a look to see if he can be part of the solution moving forward. Either Simms surprises and he's in the mix as starter next year, proves he can be a solid backup, or shows he should be cut. Playing Vick worsens our draft slot and does nothing to help the team going forward. Worst case he saves Rex's job. Please no.

levi

@rexryguy  Oh Im sure he would have trouble with the KC pass rush but WTH we have nothing to lose. In fact winning only hurts us at this point. I know you dont agree with that but it really is the truth. The Jets are not doing anything this year so the better draft pick will help the team more than winning 4 or 5 games.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

I know. I joke around about 1-15 and finally using a top pick to get a great qb prospect, but really I want to win as many as possible. Seasons too short to feel otherwise.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@MikeFrancesser he is possibly the best prospect yea but thats not even for sure and the past 2 years have been historically bad for QB's. The year before that there were at least 3 qb's projected higher than him alone

Playing Vick over Simms gives the team a legit NFL QB, which allows the front office to evaluate the ENTIRE offense.

Geno's incompetence has clearly hindered the rest of the offense so far.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@Pete 57 this makes no sense. No the worst case scenario is we get blown out 50-0 with simms. than are we happy we played simms. you do realize there are other positions on a field. You play simms not only do you lose your team this year but good luck competing with teams in FA for players. As a matter of fact with such a bad record, fans who rip all of our current players and staff, and no history, its already almost impossible to compete with teams in FA... the age argument makes sense but your so emphatic about being right that you are wrong. If you think you just have experiments the rest of the year and have a decent team next year your insane. Every heard of locker room culture. We have minimal already lets not make that worse by having tryouts on sunday... joke

Pete 57
Pete 57

As far as your assertion that Simms can't be any good because the staff felt Geno and Vick are better, do you really feel confident in the teams evaluations of QBs?

rexryguy
rexryguy

@levi @rexryguy I just dont want to end up watching a brooks bollenger type game where our gameplan is similar to a high school teams. I just know that if the kid had anything we would have gave him a better shot last year, than not signed vick, than this year. were not playing madden here, these guys are evaluated in practice everyday the coaches know who is an option as a starter. As for tanking we

@MikeFrancesser @rexryguy maybe we should have him and Harvin be roomates, that will keep Winston on the straight and narrow or get knocked out..lol

Pete 57
Pete 57

If you think the Jets can be good next year with Idzik and Rex and the 8th pick in the draft then the jokes on you.

Pete 57
Pete 57

I want to lose the team. I want a complete disaster. I want Woody to have to clean house and make up his mind that he has to hire the best football guy available. The same thing happened once before and we got Parcells. That's what needs to happen to get this franchise on the right track.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@Pete 57 ummmm yea they get paid millions to do so. I would like to think they know better than you seeing him get 50 snaps (35 of which were pre season)

levi
levi

@rexryguy  I agree with you that he probably isnt that good. I just dont think it matters at this point.

@rexryguy @MikeFrancesser I wouldn't be surprised if Winston pulls a manning if we go 1-15 and return to playing a 3rd year in college.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@rexryguy @MikeFrancesser who cares. dont tank and thats not a problem. Build a solid foundation and you will win games. Than we will be able to find a suitable qb through the draft or free agency, its not like the only good qb's are top 5-10 picks.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@Pete 57 no i think we build like every other franchise. Last time i checked thats how the pats, packers, giants, denver, steelers, ravens, did it. You know, all good franchises. Now lets take a look at all your teams who "clean house" sure you have the colts in your favor but outside of that can you name me good teams who cleaned house. no because it creates a loosing atmosphere thats hard to change.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@levi @rexryguy yea and I can see that but for the sake of competition and honor i dont want to see him out there. If we agree with that im sure wilkerson, richardson, ect. agree also. It is not fair to them and like i said before, if your auditioning for future players and GM's they dont want to see stuff like this out of a franchise. So yea we may lose and in return get a higher pick that you value, but we continue to be seen as a joke thus making us a far less attractive destination for anyone. Unless you see peyton, luck, or elway in this draft they cant single handedly turn this thing around

rexryguy
rexryguy

@rexryguy @MikeFrancesser winston will not be the first pick. Period. if he goes back to school and doesnt do anything dumb all year than MAYBE depending on who the 1st pick is.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@rexryguy

its not like the only good qb's are top 5-10 picks.

Scouting has gotten a lot more advanced over the last decade.  The good QBs taken recently are pretty much ALL top picks.

Pete 57
Pete 57

Yes, those teams have competent people in charge. So yes I agree let's build a team like they do.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@rexryguy

I'm not projecting who will be the top pick.  I'm saying that Winston should be the Jets top pick if available because he is the most talented.  Take the most talented QB.  All of the other stuff (build the team, weapons, blah, blah) is MEANINGLESS without a QB.  The idea is not to sit arond and wait for a can't miss prospect while you build the team.  The idea is to get the best QB when you are in position to be one of the 3 or 4 worst teams in the league because football begins and ends with the QB position.

I don't agree with your assessment of Winston.  He is an elite prospect.  If not for the off field junk he would EASILY be the #1 pick.  I don't think you've actually watched much of him to be having this conversation.

@rexryguy @MikeFrancesser If it's not us he won't be because none of the teams that will land in the top 5 or possibly top 10 will need a QB, so your'e probably right on that one but if we are somewhere between 1 through 12 I can see the Jets making that pick

rexryguy
rexryguy

@Pete 57 you must have been born in 57. Only an older person would be that stubborn... I just showed you at least 5 teams who never think about losing on purpose and ask you to name me a few that have done it your way. You respond with a typical fallacy argument. its a fallacy because naturally I would like a competent person in charge but something tells me idzik who has been involved in many playoff teams is at least competent. Doesnt mean hes great or the right guy for us.... do you see anything in common with these teams. Browns, raiders, jags, washington, tampa... they are pretty consistently in the top 15 picks. thats not a coincidence

@MikeFrancesser

Winston is still being investigate up the ars.  Everyone that's up in Tallahassee knows that the sexual charge thing is not done yet and not going away.  What is the single most damning thing for the NFL this season??..... domestic violence and assaults on women (sexual or otherwise.  The Jets will not draft Winston.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@rexryguy @MikeFrancesser well see but get ready to be shocked than. Way to many issues in school and hes not even playing that fantastic this year.

Pete Whalen

The one thing all those teams have in common is a franchise quarterback. That's the number 1 thing a team needs to be successful. The sooner we get one the better.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@rexryguy

His issues are:

An unsubstantiated sexual assault charge

Stealing some crab legs

Yelling some silly profanity

Selling his autograph
