Agent Allan Walsh sent out a tweet saying, “Just talked with a well respected NHL GM. He said the majority of owners want a deal, Bettman blew it with the initial 43/57 offer.”
He added, “Bettman, Jacobs,Batterman have no respect for players (or GM’s), this whole lockout is one great wasted opportunity to advance the game. One of the biggest complaints from this NHL GM. Most owners don’t understand nuances of CBA, GM’s mostly seen by Bettman as the enemy.”
Larry Brooks writes in the NY Post that the lockout is all about Gary Bettman and the hard line owners showing their power and trying to bring the game back to a more restrictive time. He says, “This is about the NHL attempting to both minimize the bargaining power of every player in the league and all but eliminate the maneuverability of general managers in the market.”
Henrik Sedin talks in the Vancouver Province about feeling disrespected by the owners, “I don’t know if they [owners] think they’re dealing with kids or that we’re stupid or think the fans are stupid. It’s a little mind-boggling when you see what’s coming out of their side. I want to hear a change, that they’re actually going to give us something in return for the things we’ve given them.
