Read: Fans Don’t Care About The Money

In the Toronto Globe and Mail, Ken Dryden writes that fans shouldn’t be put into a position where they have to think about the money of hockey and why that is topping games from being played.

The owners and players have the power. They decide when to play, and if they don’t. The fans understand a fight can be long if something basic is at stake; a salary cap, for example. And they’ve found they can live with the consequences. But they don’t understand this fight. The owners and players are both doing fine. They’re doing a lot better than the fans. These aren’t easy times. What more do these owners and players want?

3 pt. favorites against Buffalo,I guess Vegas likes the addition of Harvin.

It sounds like Chad Finn of the Boston Globe is trying to get a job as a New York City reporter.

That story could have come out of any of the news outlets

Idzik did not get Calvin Johnson and Richard Sherman this week. Idzik should be fired immediately.

Can this team get to 4-6 by the bye week?  And if they do, will people start to believe they have a shot?

They need to beat:

Buffalo.  This is a home game and I watched the Bills yesterday and they look beatable.  Lost both their top running backs and were bad in pass protection (with Orton being a guy who is affected by pressure).  Only beat Minnesota after two starting OL got hurt and they had to have a 4th and 20 conversion on the last drive, a miracle catch by Hogan inside the five and then a last second TD.

KC.  Tough game here and one of the toughest places to go on the road.  KC is hot, winning three of four and beating SD on the road and blowing out Miami and NE.  This game could be the difference between wheels fall off and trending towards respectability for the Jets.

Pittsburgh.  Another home game and this has to be winnable.  Steelers last three games saw them lose to TB, squeak by the Jags and then get blown out by the Browns.

I still think .500 is a tall order, especially with only two home games (Mia and NE) after the bye week but this could be a worthwhile and attainable short term goal.

Anyone hear Boomers take this morning on the Percy Harvin Trade and why it was executed? Idzik will fire Rex and hire Bevell as the head coach( who was with Harvin in Minnesota and Seattle.

I don't get bothered by a lot but if Rapoport's report (Raporeport?) is accurate and the Jets didn't get hot on Harvin until after the loss to NE, and thus may not have dealt for him if Folk hit that FG... I'm appalled. I like the trade, but was it that they didn't think they needed a playmaker upgrade at WR, or that they didn't think they were going to be competitive enough for it to matter. What changed Thursday night? Why didn't they think they needed to upgrade WR before losing to NE?

I think there are a few TJB commenters that chuckled upon seeing this quote:

"I definitely think this team has all the pieces."

- Percy Harvin

Question - How many first round picks would we have had to send Denver to make them give us Julius Thomas in a three-team trade involving Harvin?  Five?  Six?

jaygo

@johnnyl65 It's not Harvin.  We took NE to the final play on the road and had Denver on the ropes late, back to back.  Jets played about as well as any team could be expected to play in those two games.  You see what Denver did to SF last night?

@BDarc23 It would have been too late to save the season anyway and therefore pointless.

@Bent

Buffalo has 2 1st round pics at corner backs 2012 1st round Stephon Gilmore selected # 10 overall and Leodis McKelvin 2008 1st round pic 11th over all..

@Bent I'll add:

If this team CAN get to 4-6 at the bye, who will lose their 7th game first... the Jets or Giants?

Giants 3-4:

Colts

@Seahawks

49ers

Cowboys

@Bent KC game looks tough but I think we match up with them aa well as anybody.  That said, I can't look past Buffalo next week for more than a moment.  Lose that one at home and the season truly may be done.

KC is the unlikely win, definitely. I don't see it happening, but I'm certainly hoping!

@gottem13x Yeah, not an original theory by any means. Also completely illogical, considering Harvin just got traded because he didn't fit in Bevell's offense and started acting out over his use in that offense.

@DarrolRayFanClub  That Raporeport sounds kinda weak to me. "The trade talks heated up Friday morning" isn't something that should surprise us. Trade talks always heat up the day of the trade. And Friday being the first day they had free on an open week, it probably allowed them to dedicate the necessary time to talking it out.

I think the timing is logical, trying to act like the outcome of the game dictated the trade, not-so-much, imo.

@DarrolRayFanClub Yeah Nick could've made that kick and that doesn't change how well the offense played one iota.

@Bent Should have given them all twelve from last year. Idzik didn't use them.

@bob @Bent They have a second rounder at safety too...but they lost Aaron Williams yesterday and so he might be out.  He already had a neck injury and collided headfirst with a Vikings player then was staggering about like he was drunk.  Scary stuff.

Disgruntled Jets Fan

We also have two first round corners....but one is injured and one is mediocre.

Giants are staring 3-8 right in the eyes. It's fine though, most of us could see they were not at all a good team going in. I think in the end, both NJ teams end up with similar records.

Bent

@DarrolRayFanClub @Bent The Giants would probably be dogs in all four of those, but the 49ers are vulnerable with both Willis and Bowman out.  Hopefully Willis will be back.

@jaygo @Bent I think the season is done anyway, just hoping they can climb out of this hole.

The team is focused on Buffalo, I gather.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan I actually think the Bills game is the toughest, even if it is the easiest matchup. Winning a game off a six game losing streak is never easy. Hopefully the Harvin shot in the arm lifts them enough, and they can ride that into KC and Pitts.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

Yeah that will be tough.  My thinking is if they can compete with top teams like they have the last two weeks then one of these days they'll get lucky in a close game.  Maybe that will be the one.

gottem13x

@Brendan But I think it was bevell that pushed for Seattle to pull the trigger on the original trade with Minn. Who made out like bandits by the way.

I didn't buy it either.  That was definitely the "I have to get to five links somehow" link of this selection.

@gottem13x I think you misread. Bent asked how many first round picks would it take.

@Bent @jaygo I agree season is done.  You're talking "wheels off the bus" in your post.  It could get real ugly around here if we go down to Bufallo at home.

Disgruntled Jets Fan

I think they win when they finally force a couple of turnovers. But KC isn't too turnover happy, right?

Disgruntled Jets Fan
Disgruntled Jets Fan

No, it's accurate. But generally you have higher hopes for a first rounder.

DarrolRayFanClub
DarrolRayFanClub

@jaygo @Bent Yeah. However, they have Bills, Dolphins and two 2-5 teams out of the bye week, so if they somehow win three straight you just know the media will make it more about a real run than .500.

jaygo
jaygo

@Disgruntled Jets Fan They're an up and down team and have St. L at home next week.  I would expect them to win that going away so are they and their fans jazzed for Jets and three in a row facing Buffalo after us?  Maybe not, especially if Royals take the Series deep.

The loudest voices are saying its Quinn, not Bevel.

Bent

@DarrolRayFanClub @Brendan @gottem13x My point, I guess is that anyone who wanted them to add Harvin earlier was dreaming because clearly their asking price was a lot higher initially.

It's not like the Jets were likely to get Julius for a late round pick...

Bent

@MPTG_Frank

We apparently were sniffing around Kris Richard last year (their DB coach).  Could he be a DC candidate if Rex is gone?

DarrolRayFanClub
DarrolRayFanClub

Wait, so Harvin only plays in 15 games this year, right? Do the Jets essentially have to pay him for week 7's game when he wasn't on their team during their game?

Bent
Bent moderator

@DarrolRayFanClub

No...only 14 because Seattle also had their bye so he benefits from two bye weeks as well.

I had the same question but I determined that he will get 11/17ths of his salary from the Jets.
