So, WHY do YOU LOVE the Jets?

Good for DT, giving that "don't ask me what the eff is going on w/ my defensive backfield" interview as a shot to support Rex. I know it been discussed ad nauseam, but injuries or not, the defensive back situation is despicable and borderline impossible to watch.

Walls might be out?

Holy god...  Did you watch Winston's press conference last night?  Dude is slowly stepping away from reality.  He's going to go from OROY to guy-with-a-stash-of-guns-in-his-car to homeless in about three seasons.  If the Jets draft him, then it's clear they just don't give a rat's ass.

Stat I learned in the nj.com piece about turnovers: jets offense turned the ball over more times in the bills game than Denver has ALL SEASON.

I hope DT is not being literal, just exaggerating for effect. If a grown man can't memorize a couple of names, I have no confidence in him doing much of anything. My high school teacher friends routinely memorize dozens of names the first week of school.

@levi I don't know why they don't just go back to Wilson outside.

He held his own out there against New England and then went back into the slot the next game so that Allen could start out there for the first time in ages.

Stupid MeetingGate aside, Geno and Mark have been pretty good off the field. Maybe the jets need a qb that's batsht crazy.

The Jets turned the ball over twice as many times in Sunday's game than all their opponents combined so far this season.

I just read the article and it seems what he doesn't know is what these 2 players can contribute. In the article he actually names the players, so just another misleading headline.

@Bent @levi

Didn't we ask the same thing about Lankster earlier this season?

levi
levi

@Bent  So what youre saying is they are throwing the season for the #1 pick. I knew it!!

levi
levi

@Bent Lets hope so. He might not be a shut down corner but but his replacement is like an 8th stringer by now.

@Bent @levi

Oh man, whew.  That was close.  I thought the line might move to -18 if Walls couldn't play.

@Bent @Disgruntled Jets Fan unquantified  logic, guys don't want to play and don't like the situation . When a guy doesn't like his job or just not good at it, you can't inspire them to go above and beyond.

That's an even more frighteningly impactful stat to highlight the turnover issue.

Pete 57

I understand how and why the Jets turn the ball over. Most is on the QB. But how they do not get turnovers, that is just mind boggling.

Disgruntled Jets Fan

Yeah, I think it was just meant to emphasize the fact that jets secondary is full of unknowns.

Bent

@levi @Bent I don't think it would make that much difference, but DT talks about how they're "searching" when maybe the answer has been under their noses all along.

@roadyhorns @Bent @levi

If he is saying he 'thinks' he'll be able to play, that means he can't even walk right now...

Joe willy was crazy ... Winston is a great player he is young and dumb

Bent

@Disgruntled Jets Fan Hopefully we'll be able to contrast it against a second half stat that trends in the opposite direction.

levi

@Pete 57 Its freakish. They should get some occasionally just by pure luck but nooooo not the Jets.

Or at least do what everyone else does and click on the link then go straight to the comments section.

@Bent Who would CB the slot if Wilson was outside? Allen cant handle those quick guys.

Pete 57
Pete 57

Yeah well that's what we said about this year as opposed to last year.

Pete 57
Pete 57

Exactly. How many bad passes were thrown by opposing QBs? I can think of two, the one interception they have and the one Pryor dropped.

Disgruntled Jets Fan

I know Bent says that teams take less risks against the jets, but I think that alone can't explain the staggering differential.

levi

@Bent haha I almost always read the BGA's.

Bent, MOST of the time I read the BGA first.

If you wanted Wilson to revert to the slot in the nickel packages then that would be fine.

Essentially instead of the projected starters (whoever they may be) playing every snap and Wilson only playing when they go into the nickel, now Wilson can play every snap and the weaker of your two starters only has to play in the nickel.

Have you watched Jamie's Winston film? He has great footwork he reads blitzs well and can change his offense at the line. He sees the field well. He has an nfl caliber arm. He can run like a damn bull. He's 6'4 235.

Like I said yesterday he is a dumb 20 year old not a criminal lets relax

If we have a completely opposite second half (go 7-1, dominate +/-, etc), it might qualify for the most bizarre season of all time.

Bent

@Pete 57 Even the one interception they had wasn't that bad.

Maybe I should include a test this week.

It's my favorite reading here. Besides, I'm the opposite, these days I often avoid the comments section, it's too depressing. BGA threads tend to be a bit better though than, say, some article about Idzik/Rex/Geno.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan Last year with the win, loss, win, loss, win pattern all the way up to the bye, then a three game losing streak then a 3-of-4 streak was pretty crazy.

Pete 57
Pete 57

And it seems if the other team fumbles it never bounces our way. That has nothing to do with the other team being cautious. Unless other teams are doing drills where they purposely fumble and they are being taught to hit the ball toward their teammates.

levi
levi

@Bent  Well were Jets fans so dont make it to difficult.

Bent
Bent moderator

@Pete 57

Well, that's true but maybe opposing teams have been drilled to take the sack and be alert to a fumble when under pressure rather than taking any undue risks.  That could lead to fewer fumbles and more offensive recoveries.

With the Jets being capable of giving up a first down on third and long, you'd take a sack on 2nd and eight and still fancy your chances.  Not really an option for the Jets because any sack usually would lead to a punt.

Disgruntled Jets Fan

If it requires naming all current names of the secondary, I may not pass. But in my defense, I'm not their coach. :)

Good stuff,  can somebody tell MM to tell our QB's to do the same.

That would be an interesting stat - first down rate after taking a sack.
