Note: James Dolan Stopped By The Locker Room Yesterday

According to the NY Post, Rangers owner James Dolan stopped by the locker room at the MSG Training Facility in Westchester after practice yesterday.

Brett Cyrgalis says that Dolan shook hands and had a few words some of the players before moving on.

Dolan was reportedly very much against the lockout and pushed to have talks restart after they fell apart.

Hmmm...this seems to suggest that Mariota might be susceptible to the sort of traps he won't have seen much of in college.

Winston has already proven to be susceptible to such traps at times.

Funny how this tells a different story from the "Mariota doesn't/can't throw deep" narrative.

"He is Rex's boy. He will succeed Rex Ryan on this team. I have already said the jets should kick him straight back to St. Louis.

Interested Jet"

I had to bring this back up to the top, because it is the funninest thing that I have heard today.  Thank You Intrested Jet, You have just made my day a little better.

@tsjc68 That settles that. No more Ogbuehi in the 3rd round for your mocks, people.

 Richardson made the kind of April statement familiar to Ryan when he said that he believed the Jets were going to be the best team in the league in 2015. The bravado sounds the same, but Richardson’s rationale for that prediction was that there are big differences in talent on both sides of the ball and tight end Jace Amaro said that those aren’t the only differences under new coach Todd Bowles.

“He’s not really playing around with everyone being late. We had an issue with that last year,” Amaro said on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Alex Marvez and Bill Polian. “Guys just weren’t accountable last year as much as they could be. I think that’s the biggest thing, he’s making sure everyone’s gonna be 100 percent in or he’s not going to be on the team.”

Geno - still on the team, but position under threat

Pryor - still on the team, pretty much still pencilled in as starter

Wilson - gone

Allen - still on the team, but for how long?

My mother's good friend is named Lovie.

She's a wonderful woman.

@Bent @tsjc68 @Brendan

That would be pretty funny.

I do know a woman named Kimberly Wimberly, though.  Or, at least, she was named that, she might have a new surname post-marriage.

Pretty amazing what a quality GM does for morale of the players...

This quote from Richardson makes me even more disgusted by Idzik and happy for the players

You are the one reliving them

I am pointing out a difference in morale which is positive

@bradysucks Please don't make every day about the past. Look forward, dude.

Not the point

Point is players seem very happy

True.  And sometimes you even have to relive them, for perspective and catharsis.

You don't have to relive them every day, though.

@bradysucks I get that, but let's just leave that skeleton in the closet, so to speak. Hopefully Geno (or Fitz) doesn't make Sheldon look silly in 8 months or whatever.

@bradysucks

Maybe Idzik's plan was to give the future GM loads of money to spend in free agency and a high draft pick for a quicker turn around.  I'm sure Idzik was hoping to be the GM that could spend that money.  Idzik gave us Sheldon and ultimately Maccagnan and Bowles......uh thanks John.

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  There's just no need to bring Idzik up, that's all. I agree, the players have an extra giddyup in their step, it seems, which is obviously great.

I am not bothered by lessons learned from Idzik....just happy for the players

@tsjc68 So that means teams with Chris Ivory, Alfred Morris and Lamar Miller all brought in Stevan Ridley. Those are all similarish power runners and Ridley also fits the bill. Looks like his value is topping out at "backup to the starting battering ram, but capable of starting if the current starter goes down or could even push for the job himself."

Also, a trade for a lower-round pick in-season if a team gets the injury bug at RB is something Macc could keep in his back pocket, potentially. Obviously it depends on Ridley being good, but he's been more good than bad in his career so I'd take the shot.

@Brendan @tsjc68

I think this is another indication that Maccagnan is probably holding the line on these backup/depth deals for vets at that one-year, 800-900k range with 40k-80k guaranteed and a 665k cap hit so that they don't hurt the cap whether we keep them or dump them come August, and some guys (Colon, Hilliard, Brewer, Vickerson, Davis, Lattimore, etc.) are taking that deal and some guys (Bellore, Denarius Moore, possibly Ridley, etc.) are going out and shopping for something better, but Macc's not going to panic and budge.  Our offer is our offer (if you're a backup).  Take it or leave it.

Brendan
Brendan

@tsjc68 Yeah, it's like Idzik, except Macc is doing it with the backups and Idzik did it with potential starters.

@tsjc68 @Brendan

We'll see if Moore got anything better.  If he just took the minimum elsewhere, we're left to speculate on whether the Jets just weren't that interested to make him an offer or did he prefer the other team?

I'm glad this is in Hurricane colors and not in Dolphin colors.

@tsjc68 I wouldn't have posted it if it were.

My family and I went down to Southern Florida for a wedding a couple weekends ago for a close family friend. It was a great time, but my dad kept looking in disgust at the decorations and after a while my mom finally asked him what his problem was.

"....Dolphins colors. Everything is in fcking Dolphins colors." We ended up at a table of Jets fans so we commiserated a bit, made fun of the Dolphins and then told the groom if he made that mistake again we'd toss him in the Harbor.

Yeah,  statements like that remind me of Rex, but I'm just concerned about extending Mo and sending the right message. Having a smart draft will help too.

Trade rumors on Mo for a QB are cancer for an already anemic Jets culture,  which I hope to actually see rectified by the new regime.

He's right, guys.  We did the research:  Scoring points and preventing the opposition from scoring is good now.  We should start doing more of that.

Just read another of Serby's mocks.  He really covers his bases (A$$).   Last week we HAD to get Mariota, today he said "no QB for Jets @ 6".

Brendan
Brendan

@Lloyd Jay Reife Haha Serby is the worst. I don't even know why he's allowed to write about football anymore.

I think the safest pick is Leonard Williams followed closely by La'el. If the Jets get a QB, awesome, but if not I'm not going to lose sleep.

Brendan
Brendan

@tsjc68 I have maybe actively clicked on 1 or 2 links for them this year. I honestly don't even care what these guys have to say anymore. I look at Walter's site or one that goes deeper into its mock early to get a feel for general tiers guys are seen in, but it's all bullsht as these guys haven't even fully scouted the players themselves yet.

Yeah, I'd probably caution against doing that as well.  You're going to build some assumptions that you're just going to have to unlearn later.

@tsjc68 Yeah, it's more just an inventory of names than anything else. Like a list of guys I need to start researching myself. I hold the opinion of the homeless guy who uses the Q train as his toilet about as highly as Walter's.
