Buzz: What The Two Sides Are Meeting About/What The Owners Want

Larry Brooks sent out some tweets saying that the NHL is determined to ending front loaded contracts like the one that Brad Richards signed.

He adds that amnesty buyouts, which wouldn’t count against the cap are on the table.

On the make whole, Brooks tweets “Two sources report NHL would assume entire make-whole with at least a portion deferred but unclear whether that applies only to first 2 yrs”

Pierre LeBrun tweets that the first few hours of the meetings today were spent talking about revenue sharing and not, at least not yet, the make whole agreement.

9PM: The meetings for tonight have ended and according to multiple reports the two sides will meet again tomorrow.

Once again neither side, according to Pierre LeBrun, is speaking to the media.

John Shannon tweets: Told after the meeting that it continues to be “a work in progress”.

Update: A 4th league source says Revis overslept Tues morning. After being sent home, Revis returned to facility to apologize to Belichick

I hope he sent him him again.

Lol Belichick sent Revis home when he showed up late to practice.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  If we win or lose, it will be despite Watkins playing or not, either we play poorly or we play good enough to win, the only game the Jets were outclassed in was against the Chargers. If this team executes well they win if they don't then we'll have our 7th loss.

Pablo Bruno

@Dave Barrett  This team is capable especially with the addition of Harvin and Graham to a lessor extent, hopefully the DB signings can help out a little and hopefully Aboushi can continue showing promise. The question isn't whether they are capable or not, the question is are they going to come prepared and execute well, if they are and are consistent, then I believe they can make a run for that last wild card spot, Big if though.

He can still play at the level he is at until he is 34 years old. His technique and the way he conditions his body and how effective he has mastered the position allows him to control how fast he spend energy. The more dominant the defense he has around him the more he able to control himself and the speed at which he plays his opponents and how fast he uses his own energy.

Somehow this will lead to Rex being criticized for not sending him home when he turned up late (despite him never having turned up late to a Jets practice).

Revis doesn't rely on his athletic ability to help him cover up his mistakes like so many cornerbacks do in today's nfl. He lets his mental strength and will within his physical capabilities dominate his opposition.

You guys are always wrong about these things....

The Jets were better with Revis....

You guys live in fantasy land.....NFL isn't the Brady Bunch...No team is headache free....The Jets headaches are just amplified because they represent New York

@tsjc68 @Brendan @Bent What makes you think the Jets could have gotten him back?  Maybe he wanted a shot at a SuperBowl and that means the Pats, not the Jets.

maybe Revis was using the Jets as a bargaining chip with the Pats, and was never interested in the jets.

Or maybe Woody said no.

I wouldn't rush to blame this on Idzik.

@bradysucks @Bent @Brendan

Darrelle Revis played for the Bucs in 2013 because the Bucs were willing to pay him 16M even though he wasn't a 16M corner anymore.

He plays for the Pats in 2014 because the Pats were willing to pay him 12M even though he's not a 12M corner anymore.

Whatever price point Darrelle Revis will seek next winter, it'll probably be "higher than his actual level of play", meaning signing him would be unwise.

Pablo Bruno

@bradysucks @tsjc68 @Brendan @Bent  I don't get this Revis thing, I thought we were all over this. We will never have Revis back and it's a fantastic thing we have a front office that isn't stupid enough to sign him back, Revis is all about himself, he isn't even the same Revis we had. This is like a cheating gold digging wife, she admits she's a slut and yet she demands stuff from her rich hubby, her hubby dumps her because her demands are too high. Why on God's green earth would he take her back after liberating himself from that situation? One of the few things I like and believe in what this front office is doing, is creating a culture that puts the team as a collective first and who ever doesn't share those ideals must go.

@Pablo Bruno @bradysucks @tsjc68 @Brendan @Bent

In my defense, I'm really only interested in bringing Revis back like five+ years from now, when he's in his late 30s and playing safety and only on cheap one year deals, like what the Raiders did with Charles Woodson.

Bringing Revis back for 2015 would be unwise (and isn't happening anyway, this whole convo is academic).

@bradysucks @Brendan I think a major key is the Pats losing in the first round or somehow not making the playoffs... or at the very worst not reaching the AFC CG. I want him leaving NE with a bad taste in his mouth.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@bradysucks @tsjc68 @Brendan

Leaving the Woody part out of it:  Idzik isn't going to pay Revis what he wants this offseason, nor should he, because Darrelle Revis hasn't yet reached that phase in his career where he'll say "I'm willing to play for less than top dollar because I just want a ring and a good environment".

Revis will still be asking for 12-16M for 2015, when he's maybe a 8M corner or so.  Not a good fit.  Someone will overpay him, it won't be us.

Bent
Bent moderator

@bradysucks I've said for years he's worth $11-12m (although he hasn't been playing up to 100% of his abilities this year).

The fact he signed for that proves I was right...although he didn't really sign for that, did he?

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Do you think Revis would do it?

My gut tells me no.

Bytor

He may be getting to the point in his career that he'll look for a multi-year deal with guarantees, age and injury considered.

Then again he is Mevis. $16M or nothing.

@tsjc68 @Bent @bradysucks The Jets should sign Phillip Adams to a two-year $33m deal with $32m non-guaranteed in year two.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@bradysucks @tsjc68 @Bent @Brendan

Back before we traded him I was saying "Pay him 16M per if you need to, he's that good."

I was wrong.  He isn't remotely that good anymore, and both 16M and 12M are ridiculously high figures for post-injury Darrelle Revis, who is no longer heads and shoulders better than everyone else.

Revis is one of the better corners in football, but he's not THE best anymore.  He's not the same guy.  He can be beaten, and has been, as Geno and Decker themselves showed just a week ago.

Brendan

@bradysucks 1-6 has literally nothing to do with Revis being worth $12 million.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@bradysucks @tsjc68 @Bent

Again, nobody is saying that Revis wouldn't help or that he wasn't good when he was here.

We're saying that "Darrelle Revis, while still soildly good and obviously an upgrade over the CBs we have here now, is no longer a 12-16M per a year player but he continues to price himself like that and other teams continue to be willing to pay him that so us signing him in 2015 would be a bad idea because it's a poor use of 12-16M and we should instead try to pay some other CB who is also good some amount of money less than 12-16M and take that savings and reallocate it elsewhere, like on a new guard or a new passrusher or a new wideout or a new quarterback."

You know, "thinking" instead of "being emotional and needlessly reductive".
