Buzz: The NHL Has Proposed A Players/Owners Only Meeting

5:56PM: Bill Daly emailed Pierre LeBrun and said “We want to find a way to get to a deal nothing else has worked.  The Commissioner felt that we might as well propose something different.  We will see how they respond.”

5:46PM: John Shannon tweets: From a League source “Nothing else has worked – big groups, small meetings, mediation. So let’s try something else.”

5:44PM:

5:32PM: Larry Brooks tweets “For its next trick, NHL proposes that players negotiate their own contracts without representation from agents.”

5:28PM: Dreger adds “Not all owners would be included in this owner-player meeting. Hasn’t been determined. Not sure why either side wouldn’t welcome this.”

5:23PM: According to Darren Dreger and Katie Strang, Gary Bettman has proposed the idea of owners and players meeting without any NHL or NHLPA brass.

Dreger says that Fehr and the players are believed to be considering the idea.

How did Shonn Greene get back in the game?  Pryor knocked him silly and Greene clearly had a concussion.  He was on dream street.

@t__k My guess is his baseline tests don't change much from his concussed tests.

(I'm implying that he's lacking a functioning brain)

@Brendan

Remember when we should have taken Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper in the top 10?

Good times.

@Brendan That's encouraging.  Hopefully Milliner can come back and stay healthy so the secondary can bounce back next season.

@a57se I think Geno did what he should have done, which is bail the hell outta there and let his OL do the fighting.

"Let's just chuck it cross-body into this zone with one of my teammates surrounded by five Bengals and hope for the best."

@Brendan @t__k I would think that this is probably the most logical answer.

@tsjc68 I would be, too. Sankey is good and those other guys suck.

@Brendan @a57se

I thought it made him look like a p****. Talk real loud, then run away once the other guy gets physical?

Maybe I'm just biased though.

@tsjc68 @Brendan Ugh, that's terrible Qb play.  He doesn't look like he has the arm strength needed to be successful to me...Maybe I'm wrong.

@Brendan @tsjc68

I have a hunch that Antonio Andrews might end up being the best of the four.

The Blasian has a lot of catch up to do. Maybe he's pushing for PT at some point later next year.

@a57se Random guesses - Bills, 9ers, Cowboys, Packers....and I can't think of 2 more.

@juunit I mean, he was literally surrounded by Titans. He'd be an idiot to fight back against Casey 1v1, but without backup? I don't blame him for it. It was kind of funny how casually he walked out of there, too. He didn't run, he just turned and slowly walked out (with his helmet on sideways).

@a57se They made it pretty clear it's going to stay on the field and they aren't telling us.

@t__k @tsjc68 @Brendan

It was a really rough debut (I think ESPN said it was actually the lowest rated first start (by their made-up QB stat "QBR") ever.)

He'll probably get better.  He probably won't get better enough, though, IMHO.

@MikeFrancesser

I'm not carving his name in stone as CB#2, just saying "I hope he helps us next year".

@MikeFrancesser  One way that he's pushing sooner is if his time injured allowed him to just be a sponge and absorb as much info as possible.

Obviously putting things into practice is a different step entirely, but if he's not thinking out there and just knows his assignments, etc. it might help expedite getting him up to speed physically.

@Bent But in the highlight reels, that's one of the types of play we saw. Him playing deep and recognizing a play quickly and flying up to make a stop near the LOS.

@Brendan @juunit

I like how, no matter what happened, Geno is in the wrong.

He picked a verbal fight with someone and didn't punch back?  HE'S A FAIRY.  (Nevermind the fact that he successfully goaded a Titans player into committing a personal foul penalty against the Jets that picked up 15 valuable yards and probably should have resulted in their best player being ejected...)

If he'd have punched back, it'd be "What is Geno doing fighting and risking injury or ejection WHAT A STUPIDFACE!!!

If he hadn't responded to Woodyard and Casey's trashtalk at all, it'd be "HE'S TOO SCARED TO STAND UP FOR HIMSELF!!!"

Etc.

Brendan

@a57se Seems the players aren't giving anything to the media about it this time, but maybe something comes out later. It was probably just some typical sht talk.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Yeah, I saw that. Doesn't mean much, though. Of course Whisenhunt is going to try to back his guy.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se It looked like both guys were jawing, and Casey lost his cool.

@Brendan @a57se

Wesley Woodyard is probably a part of that jaw-fest, as well.  A friend of mine knows him and said he never stops with the trashtalk.
