Recap: Ryan Callahan on The Michael Kay Show

  • On last night, “We had a 15 minute lapse, but we showed character in coming back and getting a point out of it.”

  • On the team, “There is room for improvement. It’s part of the process, we know we can do better. We are happy with the wins we have but there are areas we need to improve on.”
  • On benching Richards, “Torts is the type of coach that holds everyone accountable. If he is not happy with you he will let you know. It’s tough for Brad but we have all been through it. Torts is going to hold you accountable and you need to play your best hockey. All of us have been with Torts and we know his style. If you play well you will play a lot of minutes.”

  • More on Richards, “It was one period that this happened. Everyone knows how important Richie is and he needs to be one of our best players to go far. He will be right back in on Sunday and have a great game. “
  • On Rick Nash, “you can see it from day one, the size, the skill. He can take over games and that is what we wanted when we brought him in.”
  • On the lockout hurting the team, “We won’t say that. Everyone is in the same boat. We have a big emphasis on our training camp, but we have a lot of guys returning.”
  • On Chris Kreider being sent down, “It’s hard. It’s part of the game. I remember my second year I was sent down. It’s part of being a pro. You use it as motivation to show that you belong and I expect nothing less out of Chris.”
  • On going to the shootout vs OT, “I do. I think the 4 on 4 is exciting. A lot of fans like the shootout but I like the 4 on 4 and think it’s exciting.”
  • On John Giannone, “I don’t know what he was looking at, but he got right back in there and finished the game.”
  • Callahan picks Kobe over LeBron based on the amount of championships that Kobe has won.
