jets need to play this smart like the Giants would. no talk of cutting or trading now. whats the point or benefit to the jets right now? None at all right now. keep it quiet and lock Mo up. forget trading Richardson this season, jets won't get value at this time. let him come back with a vengeance this year and prove that he is a changed man and has fixed his thug ways. the time the jets will score is in the off season by shopping him around for a 1st rounder when teams have seen him come back and be the beast he is on the field. to me that is the only way to fix this mess. play your cards right NYjets and at least get some value back for this idiot. its highly unlikely he is going to just snap and change his ways, people just don't do 180'S with there personalities in life. he seems unfortunatley like a bad seed. it sucks but lets be truthful.

I wish I could go back in time and kill Hitler THEN I would go to the 2015 draft and cheer much louder than I did for the Williams pick.

@Jeff E. Guy Glad to see you have your priorities straight.

143 miles an hour wow that's fast. That may be a Jet record maybe an NFL record.. Richardson may go down in history as the fastest player ever to go that fast.

Here's the latest on the Richardson debacle given the conflicting reports:

- Although the probable cause statement mentioned threat to human life and endangerment of a child and police believed he should be charged with both, it seems the County Office felt there was insufficient evidence of these and just stuck with the resisting arrest charge.  That being the case, maybe he can avoid jail time after all.

- That seems remarkable - and maybe his status as an NFL player worked in his favor there.  However, the NFL (and maybe the Jets) will still factor both issues into any punishment they issue.

- Remember, Mike Goodson got (and served) a four game suspension before even going to court, so the NFL can suspend him (on top of his existing suspension).  No guilty verdict or even pressed charges are required, as shown by the Rice case.

- He had already lost the guarantees in his contract because of the drug suspension.  The Jets may also recover signing bonus money from him, but would need to keep him on the team to do so.  If he goes to jail, his contract would be tolled until his release so the Jets could, in theory, retain his rights.

- Police not only got Sheldon's middle name wrong in reports, but also the model of his car.  With no arrest/mugshot (he was simply given a court summons) that makes you wonder what information they did get correct.  Won't get him off the hook, but does hurt the prosecutor's case when they provide inaccurate information.

- The Jets did not know about this at the first day of camp and neither did any team mates or former team mates who've commented on or off the record.  I'm guessing Sheldon was hoping it would go away somehow, either being in denial about the whole thing or hoping his attorney could swing some kind of deal.

He's lucky Bent he only got charged with resisting arrest and traffic violations. I'm guessing he will get jail time

bob

Maybe not jail time I just wondering how many violations will be on his traffic ticket and how the law works

I suppose that the district attorney can amend the charges.

If there's no endangerment charge, I think he'll be fine from a legal perspective. Sounds like a big old fine and community service. Then again, I highly doubt any sentencing would occur on the CE charge before the end of the season, since his arraignment isn't till the end of October

My guess is that he'll get at most another 4 games and that will be it.

Bent
Bent moderator

@J. Smooth

I wonder if the league won't hit him harder BECAUSE he didn't get hit hard from a legal perspective.

Would hope the Jets/Sheldon would NOT appeal any suspension.

J. Smooth
J. Smooth

I don't think he'll get hit super hard because it's his first arrest and there's no violence or drug charge. I think four games is probably the max here.

Bent
Bent moderator

@J. Smooth

Four games, to be reduced on appeal or more than four to be reduced to four on appeal?

Say this is correct and Richardson would therefore be on the team for about a month before his arraignment, could the Jets really proceed on that basis, planning to activate a healthy Sheldon in midseason, knowing there's a chance he might be unavailable again by the end of the year?

The timing is one of the worst elements.  How soon could the Jets even bring him back to practice?

I guess Aldon Smith is back with the Niners which didn't seem very likely at one point.

J. Smooth

Put another way, if Sheldon is still on the team by noon today, I don't think he gets cut.

Bent
Bent moderator

@J. Smooth

Oh, I wouldn't expect him to be cut today anyway because the team can potentially recover signing bonus money if they keep him on the roster.  You'd typically send him home and put him on a reserve list before suspending him indefinitely.

With maybe a couple of million (cash and cap) at stake, seems premature to cut him now, although I guess some teams would take that step.

jets3980
jets3980

@J. Smooth he won't get cut, too good a talent and jets need to recoup his draft pick, and  i think his suspension will be doubled. let him come back and play rest of season. after season is over jets should then shop him around for a first round draft pick. that to me is the only way Jets come out looking like winners here. this guy is a cancer and believe me I'm fuming over this because i thought we had a great beast of a player for years to come but obviously he is just another bad apple in this league.

jets3980
jets3980

@Bent bottom line who cares what police got right or wrong on paperwork. the important thing is the jets along with jets fans are finding out what a real punk piece of garbage this guy is. i understand his stock might be down in the trade market at the moment but once Richardson is done with punishment, the jets should shop him around for a #1 pick. and now obviously they should lock Wilkerson up. With Williams in here now they will not be able to keep all 3 of these guys long term anyway, so they might as well get rid of the rotten apple. Im done with this assh@@e anyway he can take his anti-cop attitude and go to Dallas where all the Perps go. good riddence

So what do you think guys is Sheldon gonna do jail time

jets3980
jets3980

@Chris Molloy come on how can you say that?? totally new regime in here now. you have to give Mac and Bowles a chance and see how they handle this mess. lmao and how can you blame the jets for Richardson being a total loser? that happened long before he was drafted by Jets.

carlhungus

I don't think he gets cut right away, because there isn't much financial upside to do so, and if he's suspended it gives them more leverage down the road.....but I'm pretty sure he's played his last down for the jets...woody hates this stuff....he dropped bray like a bad habit for infractions way less than this....my guess is they keep him in org until sentence plays out and then try to trade him....

If that fails then they probably would cut him.

Sad day..typical jets though, every time you start to think you see the light at end of tunnel, it's just another 8000 car train full of shite.....

And don't even get me started on the %@!!# Mets....

Bray wasn't any where near as good as Richardson. He won't be traded.

I said it last week. Keep Mo, trade Richardson. Now he ain't worth a shite.

harvlis

Next week, he is going to get caught in the nude, beating up an under-aged prostitute, with a crack pipe on the nightstand, an empty bottle of Dom Perignon on the floor.

The following week, he is going to shoot a tiger with a bow and arrow on a protected range, in Africa, while snorting cocaine.

Richardson is a royal nightmare.

kasteeth

when he got suspended i simply commented on this type of behavior being tiresome (which is being pretty soft) and i get lectured by @beerfinger for "moralizing" and how people are entitled to make mistakes etc.... Well this is no mistake. Mistake is 5+5=12.. when it happens over and over again it is poor behavior and it hurts all those around him...So while i still hope that all turns out well with him..the comments on the blog seem justified now..

You g but grown men need to be coddled because "rules are hard" this just speaks to the lack of discipline & self control that has been normalized in today's society. Always pass the buck, somebody holding you down or "what had happened was" crap that has created a peter pan syndrome epidemic like we have never seen.

Actions have consequences & blaming the rules you don't like for your inability to follow them just shows the level of weakness in today's society. Mistakes are 1 thing but an ideology that normalizes irresponsibility is enormously destructive.

Ed D

First what he did was INCREDIBLY STUPID, IMMATURE and SELFISH...

But he is only going to get another game or two tacked on IF THAT...there are NO gun charges as he legally possessed it and there are no drug charges as there was no evidence of drugs other than an "odor"

There are no felony charges and hes never been in trouble in terms of being arrested before in the NFL

That being said, hes a gigantic waste of God given talent right now...hopefully someone can smack some sense into this kid

I think you're being optimistic here.  The NFL doesn't need charges or a guilty verdict to levy suspensions (see: Rice, Hardy).

And there is mention of child endangerment and risk to human life in his resisting arrest charge on the probable cause report, so I wouldn't be too sure they're not going to get factored in somehow.

I think he's okay on the gun and drugs from a legal standpoint, but that doesn't protect him from the NFL.

@Bent @Ed D

Two felonies, at minimum, one which carries a minimum of three years.

He'd be an idiot to not take a plea deal, so he'll probably get less time than that. But zero jail time really isn't in the cards after an incident like that.
