Read: The Rangers Know How To Deal With Adversity/How Important Each Of the 48 Games Will Be

In at article at Newsday, Steve Zipay wrote about how each game during the NHL’s 48 game season will mean so much and how this season isn’t a marathon but a sprint.

Brian Boyle told Zipay that each loss will mean double and any sort of losing streak could really put a team in a bad spot. Boyle added “it’s going o be 30 teams going nuts.”

John Tortorella said, in the Daily News, that the Rangers will need to use their experience of dealing with adversity to help get through the changes of a shortened season, “On the players’ side, no matter how many games you play, the mental toughness of it is always very important if you’re going to succeed. That’s a big reason we had success last year; we overcame a lot of different things. This is another one that’s ahead of us. We’ve had experience with it and I think we will handle it just fine.

Dan Rosen of NHL.com writes that with all of the three point games, games that go into overtime where both teams get a point, winning in regulation is going to come at a much higher premium during the shortened season.

This may not go over well  but....I've been so pleased with mac'n'bowles thus far in free agency, I almost don't mind what they do in the draft - meaning I trust them. I personally want mariota and if they think he's a franchise QB I'd be ok with them trading up. If he IS that guy he's worth it and we need him. Cuz lets face it, outside of a year or two from riochard todd/ken obrien, one year from vine and one or maybe two years from chad, our qb situation is and has been a joke. and the way we play specials, defense and run the ball..we'd be DANGEROUS with even a top 15 QB.

@Brendan @jimjets hey Brendan! long time no jets chat bro!  was that complacency?  ok....I think we need mariota then dammit! we have to try to get that position right!!!

Brendan

@jimjets Hah, I was mostly joking. I get what you're saying, that it's been so long since the Jets have had a great FA period that you almost don't care what they do from here, that it's just icing on the cake. But their job is half done, as far as I'm concerned. An A on 50% and an F on 50% averages out to a C or something, so...they still need to keep the momentum going for me to be satisfied (I'm a picky mother fcker).

@Brendan @jimjets you're right - that 6th pick though boy....if mariota ends up being great and we blow it....trust me...ill hate them all too

Brendan
Brendan

@jimjets Haha, that 6 pick should yield a long-term starter. C'mone Macc Attack, one time!

@jimjets O'brien was ok, would have been better if he threw the ball away once in a while instead of taking those obvious sacks. Richard Todd just plain suck. He lasted because he played at Alabama like Namath.

Some think Peat will be the first O'Linemen picked this year.

@a57se

He might be.

Peat sliding to R2#37 and even R3#70 wouldn't be that surprising, though.

@tsjc68 @a57se

Optimum Scouting Big Board and the Cardinals making the pick!

I expect him to go before the 7th but the third round? WOW!

tsjc68
tsjc68

@a57se @tsjc68

Do they have an "average all these boards" board?  That would probably help iron out the kinks a little bit (while still not being close enough, of course).

a57se
a57se

@tsjc68 @a57se

Wish they did...they have a lot of boards to choose from...probably too many to do that with.

a57se

OK, new sim, this time I used the CBS Board and I took the BEST player available according to that board for us:

R1P6 Amari Cooper Wr

R2P5 Todd Gurley RB

R3P6 Laken Tomlinson OG (Not exactly the BPA as two RB's were higher ranked)

R4P5 Josh Shaw CB (again not the BPA as there were 2 WR's and 2 RB's higher ranked.)

Not terrible but it does highlight the point I am trying to make here.

the best players in the third and 4th rounds are WR's and RB's...NOT OL, ILB or OLB's...

If you want them, you have to get them earlier.

@a57se

So Collins or Fowler would be the wise choice.  I likey.

a57se
a57se

@jsadolph @a57se

Well i think either of them would lead to a better valued overall draft.

You guys turn this blog into a damn soap opera. I love the football debating that goes on in this comment section, but you guys need to relax with each other. It takes away from the good talks about the team we all love (except for hank :P )

Jets are gunna shock everyone and trade up to get one of the qbs. IMO Macc made this team ready to win now. Every edge rusher outside of Williams has just as high a chance of being a bust as the qbs.

a57se
a57se

@JCuratola3

That does seem like a possibility but with the amount of older stopgaps on the team, I am not sure we can afford to give up our whole draft to move up.

We need young players who can  step into the starting line-up the next couple years at several position that could be addressed this year.

johnnyl65
johnnyl65

@JCuratola3 I only would like to see them trade up for Winston. I love his skill athletic ability ,his knack for overcoming mistakes and making the big play. Mariota I'd like to see him drop to us at #6. I love Mariota's work ethic and ability to run but he's going to need work under center.

jetsfan65
jetsfan65

@JCuratola3 I really hope that doesn't happen (trading up for Mariota) but if the Bucs somehow pass up on Winston then I probably wouldn't mind moving up for that.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@a57se

This doesn’t necessarily make Mariota a worse prospect; it makes him a tougher evaluation. You just have to search harder to find plays that display projectable traits, and because you’re dealing with such a smaller sample of usable plays, the answers can be inconclusive or even contradictory.

Yup.

FWIW, Tevin Coleman is NOT working out today.

He has his own Pro Day scheduled for the 15th of Aprl...

@a57se

Wynn is fun to watch.

R7 kick returner/gadget play guy.  I'm down.

jsadolph

@tsjc68 @a57se

With speed like that he is more of a 4th rd overdrafted guy then a 7RFO guy.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@jsadolph @tsjc68 @a57se

If we had an R5 or R6 pick, maybe.  Since we don't, I'm fine waiting until R7#223 to see if he's still around.

Also, keep in mind that Wynn is like 5'6" 165 or so.  Dude is TINY.  Even with that blazing speed, R4 seems unlikely.

tsjc68
tsjc68

Exactly. THEY JUST F#$%ING WRAPPED THEIR MEETING THE OTHER DAY. Talk about a pointless penalty.

@tsjc68

Just wait until they suspend Belichick and Brady for 2 weeks in May over deflategate.

jsadolph

@williamg1 @tsjc68

And dock them their 7th RD pick that they traded to the Rams for Greg Salas, so now St. Louis has to give up that pick.

Brendan

@jsadolph Along with Greg Salas himself, who they will use in a blood sacrifice to win another SB.

A good read about where Gordon struggles.

Ugh...if Macc signs Schaub he'd definitely take a hit in my estimation of him...

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se  It's a minor depth move, this probably shouldn't sway anyone's opinion about the guy one way or the other.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@a57se If he's signed, I'd take it as concern that Fitz will be ready at camp and nothing more.  This is probably just baseless speculation based on Macc being formerly with the Texans.

Bytor
Bytor

@Brendan I got all kinds of crap in my pocket, let's see: paper clip, fifteen cents, Starbucks receipt, key card to get into my building. WHERE'S THAT FREAKIN' DOWNVOTE BUTTON?

jsadolph
jsadolph

@Brendan @a57se

Depends what we would have to pay him.  He should get Vet Min, but since he is a QB that would mean it is in he $2.5-3.5 mil range I would guess.  But I wouldn't sign him unless Macc is already getting worried about Fitz's health.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Brendan @a57se

And if Fitz isn't 100% ready by Week 1, Schaub could take his place on the 53 while he recovers on the PUP, or if he's not that bad but just a little gimpy, you could go with Geno-Fitz-Schaub and leave Matt Simms to the wolves.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@a57se @SackDance99 Okay, I'll bite, if they sign Schaub, what's your baseless speculation for why the Jets would sign another vet QB?

Brendan
Brendan

@SackDance99 Well, Schefter isn't really the type to just tack a name on there when it doesn't belong. It could be made up at its source (or "source"), but I don't doubt that Schefter is hearing this from somewhere (might jus tbe the agent, though).

Brendan
Brendan

@tsjc68 Maybe they're signing Schaub to stand next to Fitz so any time someone is going to hit Fitz they just tackle Schaub instead. It'll keep those old legs fresh.

jsadolph
jsadolph

@Brendan @SackDance99

Shaub's agent probably received a call on March 11 and is still saying that we are still intrested in his client.  Even though we moved on from Shaub 3 weeks ago.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@jsadolph @Brendan @SackDance99

And we probably still ARE interested in his client, to be honest, because his client has played good football in the past for our coaches.

Now that we have Fitzpatrick, though, our interest has probably waned to "1 year deal, vet minimum, 665k cap number, zero guaranteed".

Because at this point, he's just camp depth.

johnnyl65
johnnyl65

@Brendan If they were to sign Schaubb to 0 gauranteed money deal both him and Fitz could play for the position and either or both could be cut with no penalty.

Brendan
Brendan

@johnnyl65 I'd be fine with that, tbh. But Schaub is SO BAD that I think they'd see him throw for a couple days and just nix the whole experiment.

MoSacks MoSnacks
MoSacks MoSnacks

Schaub couldn't sustain success with Andre Johnson and Arian foster. Why the crap would I want him on my team? Lol
