NEWS: Five Regular Season Games Canceled

The NHL has announced that games through October 24th have been canceled.

The following five Rangers games were canceled:

  • Friday Oct 12 @LA
  • Monday Oct 15 @SJ
  • Wednesday Oct 17 @NJ
  • Friday Oct 19 @Buffalo
  • Tuesday Oct 23 @Tampa

The NHL released this statement:

The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular-season schedule through October 24. A total of 82 regular-season games were scheduled for Oct. 11 through Oct. 24.

The cancellation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.

2:37PM: Scott Burnside tweets a statement from deputy commissioner Billy Daly, saying “If we reach a deal, we will be looking to reconfigure schedule in a way that would maximize season consistent with health and safety concerns for the Players.”

So Saunders will miss another game? He's cleared to play Friday, but since the game is Thursday, he's going to miss it. :-)

PFF has an article up showing the best preseason performers at each position.

Pryor leads all safeties with the highest grade and it's interesting how they said he had an impressive game against the Giants. I thought he was a little quiet that game.

Demario has apparently been good in coverage so far, albeit on a low amount of targets.

Darrin Walls has been VERY good according to them. I hope he starts outside with Milliner come week 1.

I suspected there would be some discipline in apost from earlier today because the Jets website never updated that he had returned to the team even though they met with them since yesterday.

And left up an article from yesterday afternoon sayimg Patterson was still AWOL.

Patterson has been suspended indefinitely by Idzik.

Patterson not at practice today, according to Cimini.

Sign Assante Samuel and Terrell Thomas. Today.

I've been saying this before all this happened.

I've loved the cool and calm Idzy has brought here and I think he's done a good job...EXCEPT at corner, and he should man up, admit his mistake and bring in two guys who can contribute.

So, I guess we all expect Patterson to be cut, right? Unless he was kidnapped, a family member was kidnapped, or he spent 48 hours rescuing old ladies from burning buildings, really no excuse for what he did.

@Casey Harden Always a day late and a dollar short when it comes to the Jets.

@Oberyn1 Quiet is sometimes good for a safety.

williamg1

@harold He returned to the facility, but will never return to the team.

joemustgo

@levi That's relatively good news, no? It implies there is no underlying medical/psychological/substance issue, just someone acting like a petulant child who's getting a time out.

Brendan
Brendan

@jimjets Samuel still fancies himself a top-tier CB and wants to be paid that way.

I'd bring in Thomas if he'll come cheaply, though.

You do realize you are advocating for guys not even in the NFL to start for your team.

This when the replacements Lankster and Walls have been fine so far.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 I don't, if they were going to just cut him they would've done it last night.

harold

@a57se

Now everyone in Jets land is free to rip Patterson!!!

See I don't defend players once they break the trust!!

Burn Patterson....Feed him to the sharks!!!

harold
harold

@williamg1

I would say that a return is highly unlikely.

williamg1
williamg1

@joemustgo @levi Yes. And "suspended indefinitely" will probably lead to being cut. At least, I hope so.

a57se
a57se

@williamg1

If this was Brent Qvale or Kerry Hyder, he'd be gone...

levi
levi

@harold First we stab him then we shoot him then we hang him then we kill him!

williamg1
williamg1

@harold I'm confident Idzik will get rid of him. Its really a no-brainer.

levi
levi

@williamg1  He said the indefinite will be brief and there will be further punishment after a investigation or what not.

Why you want him cut without knowing whats up?

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se You don't even know why he missed those two days.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 Yeah, and they only did it once his issues bubbled over this year. They welcomed him back last year and were ready to have him be a part of the offense.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se I'm still waiting to find out why he missed time. Unless I missed something, that still hasn't been reported.

And it's funny that me saying "we should wait until we have the details" somehow equates to "defending Patterson" in your mind.

harold
harold

@a57se

Then he will be on that bus alone!

levi
levi

@williamg1  But Idzik hasnt done anything right yet concerning CBs.....

a57se
a57se

@levi

Did someone ask Idzik if he still has no regrets?

williamg1
williamg1

@levi @williamg1

In other words: He;s gone. They probably have to do their due diligence to cover themselves legally, and then cut him.

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @a57se

Who were those two guys we cut after a pot arrest the same year goodson had his incident?

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @williamg1 Seems like they only did it once he was a no-show for mandatory camp. And I think that even took a couple days.

williamg1
williamg1

@levi @williamg1 Well, we entered the offseason with #2 CB being a question mark. We enter opening day with the same situation. So really, I can't think of anything he's done well concerning CB this offseason.

levi
levi

@a57se  Of course and he responded: "Tell 57 to shut his cake hole."

That Idzik is a real firecracker.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 They could very easily dock him some pay and let him continue fighting for a roster spot.

levi
levi

@williamg1  I dont know. Its an odd situation. We'll just have to wait and see.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Irrelevant.

Until you know why Patterson missed those days, you can't say it would've gotten lesser players cut. It could have been an emergency, could have been personal demons, could have been narcolepsy. The point is, without knowing those details, we can't speculate how other players would be treated in the same circumstances.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 Yeah, I mean, this will certainly hurt his chances, but he still has a chance. It'll be interesting to see how much he plays in the final preseason game.

a57se

@levi @a57se

Geez...I just figured one of the snarky reporters would go there.

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @williamg1 That would be a huge mistake -- especially with the young DBs we have. Dude has to go. No way he should be allowed back.

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @a57se

It may be irrelevant to YOUR point but it is completely relevant to the point I am trying to make.

williamg1
williamg1

@a57se @levi Not one of the reporters -- all of them will. And its a valid question. An honest answer would be "yes"....

levi
levi

@williamg1  I think thats a bit harsh being we dont know what happened yet. Also Idzik said he has been helping the young DBs.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se No, without those details it isn't. What if it was a personal emergency? A justifiable absence of some kind?

williamg1
williamg1

@levi @williamg1 I don't know. Rex calls him out in the press. Next thing you know he doesn't show up for a game. Then doesn't show up for practice.

If he is allowed back on the team, every damn press conference will be inundated with questions about Patterson. All while we're heading into the regular season. Even more, the guy has been hurt.

Not worth the headache. I have a hard time believing they'd let this deserter back on the team. Sends an awful message.

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @a57se

Then he would have contacted the team or his agent would have...we do not live in the middle ages where his raven may have been eaten by a Hawk...

levi
levi

@williamg1  I pretty much agree with all that but Im waiting for the facts before passing judgement.

jsadolph
jsadolph

@a57se @Brendan

When Drew played it coy in his explanation it made it sound like Patterson was in the wrong and Drew want to distance himself from it.

Reminds me of Goodson's agent(Rosenhouse?) distancing himself and no outright coming to the defense of his client.

BDarc23

@williamg1 @Brendan The TE on the Bears...Bennett?...Was indefinitely suspended a few weeks ago. It lasted only a couple of days so who knows

williamg1
williamg1

@levi @williamg1 I hear you. Its just that: if Idzik does keep him around, it would be a decision based on very short term need, and could possibly hurt them long term.

I've never seen Idzik take the short term approach yet. Its always long term. So based on that, I think he's gone.

roadyhorns
roadyhorns

@jsadolph @a57se @Brendan

Maybe Rosenhouse doesn't know much either, just playing it safe.  I'm sure Iz was on the phone to Rosenhouse when they couldn't get a hold of Patterson.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds.  Hopefully an update this afternoon.

BDarc23
BDarc23

@Brendan @a57se I have to agree that if it was a justifiable absence he would have used his cell phone to call someone. I would also expect his agent to be on PR duty and letting us all know about the justifiable event that occured

jsadolph
jsadolph

@BDarc23 @williamg1 @Brendan

That was for a fight at practice.  Not for disappearing.  I can forgive Bennet for being too competive quicker than Patterson for not supproting his team.

Brendan
Brendan

@BDarc23 I consider addiction issues justifiable as long as he seeks treatment or help.

Or if a guy was seriously contemplating retirement and did some soul searching, if he comes back and tells the team this is what he wants I'd be more likely to excuse that.

I'm not just talking about some kind of medical emergency or something. That term is broader for me.

williamg1
williamg1

@a57se @williamg1 @levi I think the transactions have been all about the longterm: using stopgaps until his draft picks can step in. At this point, keeping Patterson would make a toxic situation. Not good for the long term.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Do what? Look at issues of addiction like a human being?

BDarc23
BDarc23

@Brendan @a57se I don't see why that or the retirement thing without a call are justifiable.

jsadolph
jsadolph

@a57se @Brendan

I agree with Brendan in that we need to wait for info to come out before we form a lynch mob.

But there are VERY few explanations that would be understandable.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Spoken like someone who doesn't understand that words at all.

Brendan
Brendan

@BDarc23 Depression? If a guy has sunk into a deep depression and contemplating quitting his livelihood or something.

Like I said, this is why we need details or else we should just leave it up to the people involved.

BDarc23
BDarc23

@Brendan I am hoping that he was contemplating quiting because he was told he got dropped down the depth chart and probably wasn't playing that night. His teammates would forgive him and he can still contribute.

jsadolph
jsadolph

@a57se @jsadolph @Brendan

Maybe not you.  I have been extremely disapointed in Patterson this Preseason and was hoping for him to turn it around and it hasn't happened.  Then this happened and I just want to be done with him.  But I just have to step back and let things play out.  It doesn't look good though.

If Demetri doesn't have a exceptionally good explanation, then I wouldn't be heartbroken if we part ways with him or demote him to a #3 or #4 CB role.

a57se
a57se

@jsadolph @a57se @Brendan

We're not going to do that...we're paying this guy $3 million a year and not to be our 3rd or 4th CB...

jsadolph
jsadolph

@a57se @jsadolph @Brendan

We are paying a guy $4 mil to hold a clip board and $1.2 mil to a WR that can't catch.  So I think that Rex and Idzik will play the best player regardless of pay.

a57se
a57se

@jsadolph @a57se @Brendan

That's fair but Patterson was the number 2 CB before this and it would be silly to demote him for missing two days..

You kow, the old 'cut off your nose to spite yur face' thing...

a57se
a57se

@jsadolph @a57se @Brendan

I don't see it happening because of a one off instance.

hey, what do I know...maybe we'll cut him anyway!

jsadolph
jsadolph

@a57se @jsadolph @Brendan

I don't know his history, but you don't bounce around the league for no reason at all.

He may not be a good player, but from what we hear is that he can be good.

He could be injury prone, and I think that could be the case.

Or he could have other issues(offield/mental/addiction) that scare teams away.  And if this is the case, it may not be the 1st instance, just the first here.

a57se
a57se

@jsadolph @a57se @Brendan

Apparently he is injury prone and that is why I'd be surprised if we only carry 5 CB's and 4 safeties...
