At USA Today, Kevin Allen lists five reasons why there will be an NHL season and chief among them is the fact that there is just way too much that both sides will lose if there isn’t a season.
He says that players would lose more than $1 billion in salary if they don’t play this season and would still be facing concessions when play restarts. As he notes “It’s not a practical position to allow that to happen.”
The owners are risking heavy damage to the game by not having a season and the backlash from a canceled season could solidify that all progress created in the past few years will be destroyed.
Allen also notes that a 10 year CBA would be in everyone’s best interest as it would give certainty that there wouldn’t be a lockout for at least a decade.
