Read: The Question That The Owners Need To Answer About Make Whole

At Yahoo, Nick Cotsonika writes a column from the point of view of the mediator and says that the middle ground for make whole should be $275 million.

While the owners have proposed $211 and seem poised to bring that number down, Cotsonika writes that the owners need to answer this simple question, “would you rather pay that and play hockey, or would you rather cancel another season, drive away fans and sponsors, and pay hefty legal bills and risk triple damages, if the union decertifies and players file antitrust suits?”

He says that the players would also need to look at the same reasons, losing the season, driving away fans and sponsors, and decide if they are good with $275 million which is lower than the $393 they are offering.
