Buzz: Why You Shouldn’t Expect A Seasonlong Lockout

In the Toronto Sun, Steve Simmons writes that it seems like the beginning of the 2012-13 season will be locked out, but that unlike the 2004-05 season, the lockout won’t be the entire season.

Simmons says that December is the likely ending point for a lockout:

Commissioner Gary Bettman’s deadline is probably early December. He can’t afford to go any longer than that: The league is now so much about the big events and cannot bypass network and financial obligations (and windfalls) for the outdoor game on Jan. 1.

It has been suggested before that the league is expected to miss the first few months, with some speculating a start date of Thanksgiving.
