Read: Why the Rangers are the road team at Yankee Stadium

The Rangers are the road team at the two Yankee Stadium games because the tax exemption that allows the Rangers to skip paying property taxes stipulates that the Rangers and Knicks must play all home games at MSG or the exemption is forfeited. (NY Times)

The NHL reimburses the home team for a lost date at their arena and the NHL reportedly saves $1 million per game by reimbursing the Islanders and Devils over the Rangers since the Rangers get more ticket revenue per game at MSG than the Islanders and Devils do at their arenas. (NY Times)

12:56PM: Marty Brodeur will start for the Devils. (Cassie Campbell)

@mcfc_kyle_nyr Tax dodging... There's another Rangers that did that and they don't exist anymore as a result..

I remember a time, not too long ago, when the home jerseys were the white jerseys.

I don't see what everyone is all upset about anyways. I look at this as 2 extra home games because there's no way Rangers fans will be outnumbered by either team's fans

The first reason is why it would have never happened, but the second reason is why the NHL would never have proposed it that way to begin with.

Of bigger interest is why the Knicks and Rangers get out of paying property taxes in the first place.  That seems a bit outrageous considering the tax burden on Manhattanites.

Great post! Now fans can stop whining why they are the away team
