Original Post: 5:06PM: Yesterday: During the preview show for 24/7 on Friday night, former Ranger and current Flyer Jody Shelley called Brandon Dubinsky a “weasel” and “the kind of player you want to get at.”
In response Brandon Dubinsky said this to Pat Leonard of the Daily News :
it won’t be long before he’s out of the league, because he’s a terrible hockey player”
Dubi also told Leonard “First of all, if I was him, I’d keep my mouth shut if I don’t play, especially since I never see him on the ice “He’s usually just yapping from the bench, and I guess now he’s yapping from behind the video camera.”
Shelley has played in ten games for the Flyers this season and has averaged 4:31 per game. The two were teammates for 21 games in 2009-10.
Dubinsky also told the paper that Zac Rinaldo is an “idiot,” “not really a good hockey player” and “I think they should just keep putting him on the ice, because he’s a liability against us.”
Now this is the kind of stuff that HBO was hoping for.
I loved Shelley when he was a Ranger and thought that he definitely should have been brought back. He wanted too many years and the team moved on and signed Derek Boogaard. What Shelley said wasn’t that bad, in my opinion, and just a reflection on the type of player that Dubi is. Dubi brings it to another level though with his comments. Maybe there was tension between the two when they were teammates or maybe this is another chapter in the story of Dubi and the Flyers. His issues with former Captain Mike Richards are well documented.
