Read: The Biggest Chip The NHLPA Can Play
In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that the biggest chip the NHLPA can play isn’t filing the disclaimer of interest but instead conceding to the NHL on length of the CBA.
The NHL wants a 10 year CBA with an opt-out after 8 years and the NHLPA has asked for an 8 year CBA with an opt-out after six.
Brooks says that there is no reason for the NHL to stand firm on their contract and transition demands if the players move towards the league on the CBA length.
While both sides recharge, there is still plenty of optimism a season will be saved early in 2013. I'm hopeful, but less optimistic.—
