In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that it was the big market owners like James Dolan and Robert Kraft and Jon Mara who helped push the NBA and NFL to end their lockouts last year.
Brooks says that when the Board of Governors meet on 12/5, it will be up to the big market owners to take a stand and push Gary Bettman and the hardline owners towards making a deal and starting the season.
He thinks that the owners of teams like the Rangers, Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Canucks, Flyers, Penguins, Red Wings and Blackhawks could and should make a stand in the board room to make a deal.
In the Montreal Gazette, Pat Hickey writes that with the big owners not being represented, the league’s negotiating committee features “A collection of losers who need a new deal because, during a period of unprecedented growth in the NHL, they can’t figure out a way to run a business. “
Hickey notes that of all the owners on the negotiating committee, only Jeremy Jacobs of the Bruins makes money.
