Pierre LeBrun, of ESPN.com, conducted an interview with Ray Whitney who said that the NHL is trying to institute a restrictive system of contract rights that will limit the way certain general managers conduct business.
“We don’t trust you GMs, we want to put in a system that tells you how to run your teams now. We’re going to cut your legs out. We’re going to make it so the worst GM in the league can compete with you because your hands are tied.’
Whitney says that he thinks he has the solution since he doesn’t think that the two sides are that far apart, “I’d stuff them all in a room and tell them they can’t come out until it’s done. And we’re not sending any food, either.”
