At The Record, Andrew Gross writes that it is time for the NHL to switch up their point system and start awarding three points for a win in regulation, two points for an OT or shootout win and one point for an OT/SO loss.

He says that implementing a 3-2-1 would increase the intensity that teams play with in third periods and give more games a playoff kind of feel.
