The Whale defeated the Baby Devils 2-1 in a shootout last night.

In the second period he took a cross-checking penalty, in the third period he was called for hooking, cross-checking and high sticking. He also missed in the shootout. • Cam Talbot stopped 43 of 44 shots
  • JT Miller had one shot on goal
  • As a team, the Whale only had 15 shots on goal

Idzik for the job ?...............No !                                                                                                                                 I'd like to see the Jets use a football version of what the Knicks did in getting Phil Jackson. Finding  a GM who has a resume that shows he's been in football awhile, has a winning history, knows how to pick personnel, knows how to draft, work FA and has a plan that has worked, Idzik just being associated with a winning franchise like Seattle, just proves being AROUND something doesn't mean you know and learned something. This last year's draft, his lack of meaningful FA pickups at KEY positions, and evaluation of talent IMO makes him better at budget issues. As far as Rex is concerned, IMO he got screwed with what he had to work with, Let the new GM hire his own HC, and see if the HC wants Rex as DC. I would really hate to see Idzik operating in FA and the draft next year. Time to move on, even if Woody has to get someone out of retirement that has the resume, to get the job done !

2. Is John Idzik the man for the job?

Lemme answer that for you: NO!

Here's one for you all.

Since the divisional realignment in 2002, only eight other times have a team played its first divisional game in week 7 or later. Five improved from that point on. Two stayed bad. Only one went from good to bad.

Improved (all reached postseason):

Oakland 2002: Started 4-4 and went to Super Bowl (4-2 in div)

Pittsburgh 2005: Started 3-2 and won 15 games and Super bowl (4-2 in div)

New England 2005: Started 3-3 and won 11 games (5-1 in div)

Bucs 2005: Started 5-3 and won 11 games (5-1 in div)

San Fran 2012: Started 4-2 and won 13 games and went to Super Bowl (4-2 div)

No trend:

Carolina 2002: Started bad and ended bad

Broncos 2010: Started bad and ended bad

Reverse trend:

Bills 2008: Started 5-1 before first divisional game, finished 7-9 (0-6 in div)

We'll see starting tomorrow if the Jets are the third team in the no trend category or the sixth in the improved...

Well I thought this team could with a SB if they added 2 more good receivers besides Decker and re-signed Revis....

The defense upfront is very good and they ruined it by being cheap on the back end

The QB situaton is a mess but we were in a lot of close games...

A few extra pieces and this team is 4-2 or 5-1 now

I really want to beat the PAtriots tomorrow. I also really want Decker to burn Revis just once.

First off, great article from "Over the Cap". But I would add a 5th question to that list: "Does Woody want to be an owner who thinks of his team as a hobby or his business?"

From my perspective, that is HUGE, if not the most pressing question to ask. While I don't put myself in the "Woody is the worst owner in all of sports" camp, I am also a fan of English Premiere League and La Liga soccer in Europe and Woody gives me the impression that he's like some of those owners of semi to marginally competitive soccer clubs who aren't as invested in the team and only pop in occasionally for photo ops, as they think of their teams as the proverbial "shiny object to be placed on their mantle and be looked at and wanted by others in order to validate their wealth/accomplishments/etc" rather than those of top clubs who are committed to running their team as a business w/ the goal of winning championships and to generate revenue, and anyone or anything that is done to contradict that should be held accountable and/or changed.

Again, I don't think Woody is horrible, as I can name about a dozen owners in the NFL alone who are worse more or less in pro sports - and for the record, I am a sucker PSL owner who has an axe to grind, if I so choose to grind it. But I do think he is not as connected as he needs to be and he should hold those he entrusts w/ running his team more accountable then he might have been to date, as I too often get the feeling he's a happy passenger rather than a business driver. Now this is not a suggestion that he comes into work today and fires Idzik, Ryan, and anyone else who has had their mob pitchforks sharpened by the mindless MSM, but I think there needs to be more involvement on a highest executive level from the owner. Not as bad involvement like Jerry Jones or good like the Mara's, but more than what we've seen from Woody. Otherwise, like those semi to marginally competitive soccer clubs, I fear not much is going to change w/ the Jets, as they might be stuck in the middle most seasons, find themselves closer to the top (but not quite there) in other seasons, and sometimes at the bottom like we seem to be destined this year.

All the 'improved' teams were at least .500  when they started their divisional games...

@bradysucks If the team was close with poor QB play, wouldn't it be fair to say with a non-poor QB they'd be 4-2 or 5-1?

More than one way to skin a cat.

No No No brady. How about a punch in da nose guard. One really good reciever and one more really good tight end and maybe a brand new shiney running back fresh out of da box with that new car smell.

@Paul Samuels I did the same thing and had the same reaction, after the 'I can't believe that's an actual article' thought.

Best case scenario: ivory runs over Revis, and on the next play, Decker goes by him and Revis pulls a hamstring trying to catch up.

Realistic scenario: Decker pulls his hamstring, Geno overthrows him and Revis makes an easy pick.

Colin Cowherd mushed the Jets and said he thinks they will win and wind up  9-7  because of their easy remaining schedule.

@bonozoffa I think Woody cares more than people like to give him credit for. I don't have anything that can confirm nor deny this belief, but I think we have a good idea that he's very jealous of the success the Giants have. Maybe it's just his ego, who knows, but I think he is emotionally invested in the Jets' success because he wants to be seen as one of the elite owners in the most elite sporting league in the world. Whatever the motivation, I do think he cares a great deal about the success of the team.

Damn you Bent for tempting me.  I read it and knew I shouldn't......bunch of crap again.

And Lupica thinks there is no media bias against the Jets, they just bring it on themselves.

I'll admit I used to write stuff like this (and I used to do it well) but I guess I grew out of it.

I guess the perfect response would be an "imagined conversation" between Manish Mehta and Gary Myers, but I'll take the high road.

@Brendan i don't disagree and i think he cares, but i'm not sure *how* he cares, which is my point. i think he wants to win, so he can add the feather to his cap that already has several feathers in it, but i don't think he wakes up every day/every week and engages those he should be engaging and knows more about football in order to make sure they know he cares like he says he does - or doesn't. and should. it's really not all that different to how a Chairman of the Board rides his CEO - he doesn't tell them what to do or how to do it, but he reinforces that he cares about the success of the company and shows it by keeping tabs and holding everyone in the organization accountable. but like i said, woody's not all bad. as an owner. he just needs to commit differently.

@DarrolRayFanClub

Well let's see, if the Jets were to manage to go 5-1 in their division then they'd be 6-6 with the four other Games coming against Minnesota, Tennessee, KC and Pittsburgh.

Figure Minn. is a gimme v a rookie QB (sorry Teddy B. fans), but the other three will all be tough calls either way.

I'd like to think Tenn. and Pitt are wins but we have had trouble with both teams the last few years...

You also weren't doing it from the position of a "professional" journalist in the employment of a "serious" newspaper.

Brendan

@DarrolRayFanClub I mean, the evidence we have to date indicates, to me at least, that he is a willing spender, but wants a sustained winning franchise. I can live with that kind of owner, if he has some minor flaws (and I do think Woody's owner flaws are minor).

NYDN "writers" think they are SNL writers and have the green light to lampoon the Jets organization because just reporting the news doesn't sell enough of this rag newspaper.

@MikeFrancesser He'd be the 2nd most talented receiver, that doesn't automatically make him the 2nd best, though.
