Read: The Rangers salary structure if they keep Brad Richards

In the NY Post, Larry Brooks notes that if the Rangers decide not to use a compliance buyout on Brad Richards, they will likely return nearly the same exact roster that they had this season.

Players like Ryane Clowe and Roman Hamrlik are unlikely to be re-signed and the Rangers, according to Brooks, will have $13.4 million in cap space with Richards still on the roster.

If Richards is bought out, the Rangers would retain another $6.67 million in cap space.

It has been speculated that the amount of cap space the Rangers have is about the total that it will take to re-sign RFAs Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin and Mats Zuccarello.

51% of readers think that the Rangers should buy out Richards after next season.

Adam Rotter: It will be tight, if the Rangers keep Richards, but the team doesn’t need to add that much and what they do add will come from trades and not the shallow free agent market. Defensive depth, especially with questions about Marc Staal, needs to be addressed, with Steve Eminger likely returning as the seventh defenseman. Up front, the Rangers will have Mats Zuccarello and Derek Dorsett for a full season and likely Chris Kreider with JT Miller kicking around.
