For the second straight game, with Rick Nash out of the line up, Carl Hagelin and Derek Stepan will skate with Marian Gaborik on their right side.
Gaborik and that line created some chances and Gaborik drew the penalty that led to Stepan feeding Anton Stralman for the Rangers only goal against Montreal.
John Tortorella explained what the difference between the players are, but said that he doesn’t expect Stepan and Hagelin to play differently, “with Gabby, he is a give and go kind of guy. With Nash, he is a 1 on 1 guy and brings a lot of people to him. Gabby likes to skate without the puck. Gabby likes to give it and then get open.”
Today, when asked about it at Ranger Rants, Carl Hagelin said, “I think Gabby is more of a goal scorer than Nash, as far as finding open lanes and then when he gets the chance, he puts it in,” Hagelin said. “But I’m not trying to adjust much. I try to play my game and get the puck out of the corner.”
Gaborik and Stepan, along with Artem Anisimov, played well together last year in forming the GAS line.
