The Rangers are 9 and 2 when they score the first goal in a game and 1 and 6 when they don’t score first.
Ron Duguay said on MSG last night, “you gotta get that first goal.”
They have scored nine goals in the series against the Devils so far and seven of them have come in the third period.
Ryan Callahan put it bluntly on the MSG post game show, “Our starts have to be better. We have to be ready to go right form the drop of the puck. From execution to work ethic to battle level, the firsts have been hurting us lately. We have to get a better start.”
Derek Stepan said on MSG, “We definitely have to make some adjustments and get ourselves ready to go.”
Henrik Lundqvist said that he had no answer when asked about the slow start, “It’s not the first time. We just need to talk about some things. We started the game on our heels.”
Brian Leetch said on MSG that the Rangers need to take what they are talking about in the locker room and bring it on the ice, “How do you take what you are talking about in the locker room and bring it on the ice? All their emotional prep is for that start. Something needs to be changed up.”
In the first four games of the series, the Rangers have shot totals of 7, 5, 5 and 8 in the first period while the Devils have had 12, 11, 8, 6.
