Read: Steve Eminger Is Looking For The Best Possible Spot

If it ends up that I’m a fifth or sixth or seventh defenseman, then so be it, but I am trying to set myself up in as good a spot as possible. I am not just accepting the same role as last year. I am coming in to compete.

In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that Eminger could be the front-runner for the fifth defense spot with either Tim Erixon, Michael Del Zotto or a “defenseman who will make an impact at camp.”

Emmy won’t crack the top four, but he should still have the mindset of trying to get into one of those spots. He averaged close to 16 minutes a game last season and should be helped this season that both players that he is really contending with, Erixon and Del Zotto, are both lefty shots while he is a righty shot. He played on the left side last season and was okay, but will be a lot better if he can play on his natural side this season.
