READ: Peter Ceresnak Is Excited About Peterborough

2011 sixth round pick Peter Ceresnak was introduced in Peterborough after being selected fourth overall in the CHL Import Draft last week.

The Peterborough Examiner, via Buzzing the Net, quoted Ceresnak as saying he likes to play like fellow Slovak defenseman Zdeno Chara.

The 6-3, 209lb Ceresnak said that Peterborough reminded him of his home in Slovakia.

I am always intrigued by late round European draft picks, and it does say something about him that he was chosen fourth overall in the import draft. Maybe he can be an NHL defenseman down the line, but I wouldn’t put him into any lineups in the near future. It will be interesting to see how he plays in North America, and not playing more in Slovakia or going somewhere else to play in Europe. Surely it will be easier for the Rangers to follow him and track his development in the OHL.

Update: 5:37PM:

OHL Prospects isn’t a big fan of Ceresnak and quote a source as saying, “not really smart positionally, doesn’t read the play well in own zone, could be beaten 1 on 1 down low and gets out of position looking for hit. Not instinctive or creative player offensively, lacks ability to lead PP from point. Shot is heavy but release is a bit slow.”
