At ESPN Insider, Craig Custance writes about Marc Staal and the Rangers defense.
On Staal, Custance writes that he has returned to his pre-concussion form, “Staal has recaptured his high-end game and doing it during a time of year where the wear and tear of a long regular season can be a heavy burden on the shoulders of a defenseman. It’s absolutely crucial it continues with the Rangers season on the line Saturday during Game 7 in New York.”
Custance also notes that the top three players in terms of ice time in the playoffs are Dan Girardi (361), Ryan McDonagh (354) and Marc Staal (329).
He spoke with someone who says that he sees a “tired group” when he looks at the Rangers defense.
Ron Duguay said on MSG after game six that he felt some of the Rangers were tired.
Ryan Callahan (320) is fourth on the list of time on ice and Brad Richards (300) is eighth. They are the only two forwards ranked in the top 19 players. Marian Gaborik is 20th (273). Michael Del Zotto is 10th at 296 minutes.
