At Coming Down The Pipe, they compare potential first round picks Jonathan Miller and Mark McNeill.
They surveyed 10 NHL scouts who supported McNeill in offense and skating, while Miller won in defense and toughness.
In terms of who each scout would take, Miller won 6 votes to four.
Scouts drew comparisons to Brendan Morrow for Miller and praised his effort level game in and game out. McNeill was praised for his offense and leadership, but consistency and effort were questioned by a few scouts.
I fully support Miller as the Rangers pick and wouldn’t be at all surprised if they went up at pick 15 and took Miller or his teammate Tyler Biggs. The Rangers have scorers in the system in Chris Kreider, Christian Thomas and Evgeny Grachev. Miller/Biggs may never be more than really good second line players, but if they make the Rangers tougher and tougher to play against, they will be worth the pick.
