Read: John Tortorella on Home Ice Advantage

One of the Rangers goals coming into this season was to finish in the top four in the Eastern Conference and secure home ice advantage through at least the first round.

Yesterday, with the Flyers only picking up one point, the Rangers clinched home ice through at least the first round.

Yesterday after practice, John Tortorella told Blueshirts United  that until the a deciding game, he doesn’t believe home ice has a big impact:

“I’m not a big believer in home ice in the playoffs. I think Game 7 that is when it’s really, I think, an advantage. I don’t want to discount what we’ve done at home. I think we feel comfortable. I think it’s a building with energy right now with how we’ve played and some of the results we’ve gotten. You need to use that to your advantage.”

The Rangers last had home ice advantage in the playoffs in 1996.

At MSG this season, the Rangers are 27-10-2.

Game One is expected to be Thursday April 12.
