In the NY Post, Rangers owner James Dolan spoke with Mike Vaccaro about the Rangers, Knicks and Madison Square Garden.
Dolan said that he will have the ultimate call on a succession plan for Glen Sather but that he loves having Sather around as GM because of his “wealth of knowledge and experience.”
Dolan said that he thinks Sather has to be one of the top GMs in the league and that “as long as he would like to stay I’d like to have him.”
He said that he stands by his comments from a few seasons ago about the Rangers being close to the Stanley Cup and that he is “heartened” by what he has seen lately.
When asked about John Tortorella, Dolan said that the two had a “special relationship” and the two used to visit before games and trade barbs with each other. Dolan added that Tortorella banned him from the locker room for a while once, bu that it was all “fun.” Dolan said that he is developing this kind of relationship with Alain Vigneault, who is a “good guy” but that he misses the relationship that he and Torts had.
