At The Hockey News, Ryan Kennedy writes that we are headed for a season of dirty play based on how teams played last season and have set up for this season.
He writes about how players like Raffi Torres, Ben Eager and Cam Janssen were signed early in free agency and players like that start to take more spots in the lineup.
It seems like the enforcer has sort of evolved into the agitator in today’s NHL where you need to be able to skate and do more than fight.A guy who can serve many roles, like the agitator, is quite valuable. Alex Burrows plays with the Sedin Twins and causes a ruckus in many other areas. Sean Avery did the same with the Rangers when he first came. A guy who can skate, hit, fight a little and create space is incredibly valuable.
Putting a lot of those kinds of players on the ice at the same time could lead to some nasty play.
