Read: How The Rangers Landed The Pick That Turned Into Ryan Callahan

On June 30th, 2003, the Rangers traded the rights to Mark Messier to San Jose for future considerations.

The future considerations, as Down Goes Brown pointed out, turned out to be the 127th pick in the 2004 draft.

Messier re-signed with the Rangers for his final season on September 5th, 2003.
