At ESPN’s NHL Draft Blog, Gare Joyce picks the Rangers to take Jonathan Miller of US National Development team in the first round of his mock draft.
Joyce writes that Miller could turn pro after one season at North Dakota.
He also says that “the play-making center who can be Chris Drury now that Chris Drury can’t be anymore.”
More on Miller, here.
The Hockey News ranks him 59th and calls him a “checking-line center.” Future Considerations ranks him 30th and says that he could be a “top-six power forward.”
I have written about guys that people have different opinions on, but Miller may take the cake. He was highly ranked in the pre-season, didn’t meet expectations but had solid international play. People project him to be in different roles from checking and defense to scoring and playmaking. I think the team that drafts Miller will draft him a lot for the potential and skill that he may posses but hasn’t entirely shown yet.
Joyce has Sven Bartschi at 8, Tyler Biggs at 11, Mark Scheifele at 13, Mark McNeill at 16, Nicklas Jensen at 18, Joel Armia at 20, Tomas Jurco at 21, Ty Rattie at 22, Matt Puempel at 23 and Boone Jenner at 25.
