Read: Brad Richards Releases a Statement

On his official website, Brad Richards released this statement:

I wanted to take a minute to personally thank all of you for your patience during the last few months of negotiations. As a player and a fan of this game, I couldn’t be happier to have hockey back. Your ongoing support and encouragement throughout the lockout has been incredible and has helped us prepared to get on the ice and play some games. I am looking forward to playing in front of all of you again, connecting with my Ranger’s family and seeing and hearing all the fans at The Garden! We will work hard to make 2013 OUR season, and reaching the ultimate goal…bringing The Cup back to New York.

do the Jets still have any roster spots left they've been signing people left and right and still have the draft

@Hanknaples

Rob Havenstein of Wisconsin, OT in this draft, is 6'7" and 321...and also highly rated.    Hope we have him on our radar in the middle rounds.     Then again, maybe we should just draft Gregor Clegane, "Mountain" from GOT.

What I like about this Giant is that @6'9" he still only weighs 351 so he might be  athletic !!

Would love to see what he does in Vikes camp though !!

Interesting take on the draft by SI's Peter King in his MMQB...citing "a few football people from the recent league meetings:

--- There are nine premium players (Winston, Mariota, Wlliams, Cooper, White, Fowler, Beasley, Scherff and Waynes.

--- Then eight or ten really good prospects (unnamed)

--- Then maybe 30 or so players of the same level (also unnamed)

One GM told King that 'the 17th pick on our board might be the 53rd on another team's board --- and that could be a team we really respect."

Sounds very volatile, and very fluid.   Could make for a lot of movement up and down.

Crapshoot.

Couldn't resist, huh?

Anyway...I'm thinking a crafty GM could make out like a bandit in a crapshoot this volatile.   Might Macc the Magician and Macc the Knife have still another moniker up his sleeve?

They said the same about Vinny testerverde and he almost took us to the super bowl

Too early to judge Schaub. Takes 15 years before you can judge them.

Except Geno.

Hey Bradysucks, you can forget about your mancrush Mariota!

The Jets will be taking Fowler when the bell rings for the Sixth pick !!!

Hanknaples

@Pablo Bruno

Nah, don't think so. Seriously though, I think they'll trade down for additional picks and still stay long enough in the first to allow them to get Fowler.

Bowles doesn't appear to be in a WIN NOW mode and will give Geno his last shot to keep the Job !!

FWIW:

Maccagnan has been in the Texans front office since its inception.

Since 2002, the Texans have had 14 first round draft picks in 13 years.  They have retained all their native choices going into draft day, never trading away a future R1 pick.

They've traded down from their native choice while on the clock twice, moving down three spots in 2005 (from R1#13 to R1#16 and adding an R3 pick in the swap) and moving down eight spots in 2008 (from R1#18 to R1#26, adding an R3 and R6 pick in the swap).

They've moved into the bottom of R1 once, in 2004, packaging R2#40, R3#73, and R4#103 to move up to R1#27 (to draft old friend Jason Babin).

They've never once traded up from their native R1 pick.  Not once.

@tsjc68 @Pablo Bruno @Hanknaples  Well he's going to have to make an exception this time

When are they going to be able to draft a potential franchise caliber QB?

Never, because next year we won't draft in the top  10, hopefully were not that bad this season but it only means not taking a franchise QB.

Ofcourse of they trade down with the Browns, I wouldn't want both of their 1st rounders this year just one of them, a couple of late rounders and next years first, only this way do the Jets have a shot at draft a QB in 2016, because we know the Browns will be terrible. And we give Geno one last chance this year, I'm o.k with this scenario

You're assuming you can't draft a potential franchise QB unless you're drafting in the top 10, an assumption that does not agree with the historical record.

@tsjc68 @Pablo Bruno @Hanknaples  What, Tom Brady, Joe Montana a few others, you got to be very lucky and have exceptional scouts out there evaluating, the Jets have never been that lucky one, and two, until these new scouts prove otherwise, The Jets have never scouted properly and I remain pessimistic.

@Pablo Bruno @tsjc68 @Hanknaples

Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, Jeff Garcia, Brett Favre, Jim Kelly, Dan Fouts, and others, but yeah.

Good QBs fall.  It happens.

Pablo Bruno

@tsjc68 @Pablo Bruno @Hanknaples  You said Tony Romo and Jeff Garcia..LOL, Bridgewater too it looks like it unless it was just a fluke last season. Who knows maybe Winston falls to us at 6, if Bridgewater fell all the way down to the Vikes, it's possible.

Some of those (!)'s are more surprising than others.

I definitely buy Flowers and Jones that high. And while 3 seems nuts for Dupree, I think we all know he's gonna go much higher than he should, wherever that may be.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@juunit @tsjc68

I mean, yes, I could see all of those.  Crapshoot.

@tsjc68 If White's there at 6 and they pass, I'll be really disappointed. I still think he goes at four but Vic Beasley is a very Raider pick....

I just don't see Jacksonville taking anything but a WR.

@jroc

Jacksonville took two WRs in R2 less than 12 months ago.

I see Jacksonville taking anything BUT a WR.

And none of them have the upside of Cooper or White. I could see picks 3 & 4 both being WRs. Crazier things have happened.

It's a shame that a uniform as clean and classy as the Raiders one has to be filled by such a lanky ball of awkward that is late-model Matt Schaub.

jaygo

Schaub lost the job in Houston to Fitz who lost the job to Ryan Mallett who is as likely as not to lose the job to Brian Hoyer.  Ugh.  I guess Todd hasn't gotten over watching Ryan Lindley after Drew Stanton went down after Carson Palmer went down.  Cards went from 9-1 to the toilet.  I suppose Fitz and Schaub are better than Lindley and Simms.

I agree.  Fitz and Schaub suck.

They are, which is why we were in on Fitz and might be in on Schaub.
