Read: Brad Richards Releases a Statement

On his official website, Brad Richards released this statement:

I wanted to take a minute to personally thank all of you for your patience during the last few months of negotiations. As a player and a fan of this game, I couldn’t be happier to have hockey back. Your ongoing support and encouragement throughout the lockout has been incredible and has helped us prepared to get on the ice and play some games. I am looking forward to playing in front of all of you again, connecting with my Ranger’s family and seeing and hearing all the fans at The Garden! We will work hard to make 2013 OUR season, and reaching the ultimate goal…bringing The Cup back to New York.

Richards put this on instagram last night:

Jets would be smart to sign another vet qb---if ur all set with Geno and Fitz coming off a broken leg the jets are in denial---if u think a down and out QB cant make a comeback --look at Jim Plunkett and Curt Warner as 2 qbs who came off the scrapheap and gone to superbowls and won---Earl Morrell is another

We probably do need a tackle.... It's tough because getting a OLB stud would be awesome.

Our Wideout depth falls off the table after Marshall, Decker and Kerley.

An underrated point especially since Jets have had injury issues at WR the past few years. Adding another good WR is important

How can you rank Brendan's UGLY TWIN #1 when in fact he was correct on only ONE out of HIS  ZILLION Picks in last years TJB Mock draft contest !!!

A little amnesia there BS ??

Not everyone from an accredited university is right often

But the guy does his research and he gets credit for that

Didn't 68 go 0-17 last year?

Remember, we have to be right 100% of the time to protect ourselves from him. He only has to be right once.

@Hanknaples @williamg1 @bradysucks  Everyone here has their strong points and truth be told some of the smartest people I know never went to college. Still, it seems these days that everyone goes so I'm pretty sure most of us have graduated from an  accredited university. The only difference between all of us and 68 is that he majored in rhetoric.

He must've double majored then because I know he has MAGALOMANIA down to the core !!!

It'll be interesting to see how much patience Bowles and Mac have with Geno.  I bet he gets the start, but if he gets benched, then his Jets career is likely over.

I don't get the impression that Macc n' Bowles are going to coddle Geno and indulge his mistakes the way Idzik and Rex did.   They know they have a question mark at QB, and Geno might be the default best option as starter heading into the season, but if he doesn't perform they're going to call Fitz's number fairly quickly; providing Geno can outplay Fitz and win the starting job in the first place.   The latter might depend on how Fitz comes back from his injury as much as how quickly Geno embraces Chan's O..

@roadyhorns @hazard2012

But there's the other side of that coin, too.   Bowles will blitz Manuel, Cassel or whomever into that same dimension.   And, odd as it seems, it's entirely possible that Geno is the best of the three.

The Jets-Buff games this season are going to be fun to watch because the teams are so much alike.

The Jets pass rush will have a big advantage...our secondary now is much better than anything Rex has to offer.

Hanknaples
Hanknaples

@hazard2012 @roadyhorns

The difference maker between the two is the Jets secondary where Revis & Co. has the overwhelming advantage of getting coverage sacks!!

Been saying for months that the jets will likely trade down because Geno would get his last chance to keep his job !!

Sorry Bradysucks, you are not going to get your Man crush Mariota !!

hazard2012
hazard2012

@Hanknaples @hazard2012 @roadyhorns

Not sure we'll trade out as much as did a few weeks ago, but I could still see it happening.   Whether we trade down or not, though, I don't think we take Mariota.   Not a lot of reasons to take him at 6, and there are an awful lot of reasons not to.

@hazard2012 @roadyhorns

I believe the organization has not truly given up on Geno and that's why they got Fitz.....to raise the overall level of QB play!!

I'm on record from the First interview that I liked Super Bowles style, presence, character and and approach to the game and that he thinks he has enough to win now....even with Geno !!

The one piece needed, i believe, is a impactful DE pass rush specialist for the Jets to have a truly dominating defense.......that would put the final touches on Super Bowles defensive scheme !!

hazard2012

@Hanknaples @hazard2012 @roadyhorns

Think I'd agree across the board.

The Jets haven't given up on Geno...yet...and have brought Fitz in to help him develop and grasp Chan's offense every bit as much as be a viable alternative to Geno should he falter.

And totally agree that adding an edge rusher will take our D from good to elite.   I'd be delighted with either Fowler or Beasley.    Those are the only 'too good to pass-up' players for me in the draft beside Winston.

@hazard2012 @Hanknaples @roadyhorns I gotta reply...Ill be gentle.  Heres ALL the reasons to get Mariota - Richard todd, kenny o'brien neil o'donnell, bubby brister, brooks bollinger, browning nagel, mark sanchez, tim tebow and gene smith.... i left a ton of guys out but....

I would like to sign him for a very cheap 2 year deal. I know he is old but he can still play a little and at very least will push/ teach geno, fitz, and any young QB we may acquire next offseason.

maynard
maynard

I would definitely kick the tires on him. What do you have to lose? His worst year was still better than Genos best

McGeorge
McGeorge

Schaub and Fitz could compete for the starting job.

Geno could "learn" for a year, then not be resigned.

The JEts can get a QB next year.

williamg1

Is Geno practice squad eligible? Better yet, maybe he can petition for another year at WVU.

DRFC
DRFC

@McGeorge Draft a QB to compete with Geno for that job.

hazard2012
hazard2012

@DRFC @McGeorge

Unfortunately, excluding Winston, there's probably not a single QB in this draft who could remotely challenge Geno as starter this season.   That's the reality of this draft. Lots of raw talent, but most will have a long arc developing into a pro-caliber QB, and that includes Mariota.

Not saying don't draft a QB...we positively will...but unless it's Jameis expect no help from that guy this year and possibly next.

rexryguy
rexryguy

@McGeorge why not at least let geno compete? thats just stubborn, he is the youngest with the most potential

Pete 57
Pete 57

BB, the jets have no need bigger than the QB position. The QB position is far and away the most important player on the field. You do everything you can to improve your starter, your second string, your third string, practice squad member....

Scherff or Collins and I will be happy too.(My favorite being Collins)

@greggreen @kniff

Warmack was a guard, Scherff/Collins are the LT of the future(that might play guard for a year).  Not the same.  Guard would be a reach, but tackle is perfectly ok to use a top 10 pick on.

@jsadolph @kniff If we trade down with the Browns, we might be able to snag BOTH!!

That would necessitate a beer blast with strippers!

Rob Havenstein of Wisconsin, OT in this draft, is 6'7" and 321...and also highly rated.    Hope we have him on our radar in the middle rounds.     Then again, maybe we should just draft Gregor Clegane, "Mountain" from GOT.

What I like about this Giant is that @6'9" he still only weighs 351 so he might be  athletic !!

Would love to see what he does in Vikes camp though !!
