Wade Redden returned to the Rangers lineup last night which could spell the end for Ilkka Heikkinen’s time with the Rangers for right now.
Heikkinen played two games over the weekend playing around nine minutes in each game.
John Tortorella told Steve Zipay that he liked some of what Heikkinen brought to the Rangers:
“I like his jam, and it’s something that we need,” the coach said. “He did fine. [But] I don’t think there’s anyone head and shoulders above down there that needs to be up here all the time in case of these injuries.”
…Thats a cool phrase, liking his jam. People should use that more.
Heikkinen was okay in his time but its hard to get a real read for a player when he is thrown into the mix and only for two games.
I don’t know where his future lies within the organization, at his age he should be more apt to come in and succeed right away, but from a long term standpoint, Bobby Sanguinetti has to rank ahead of him.
For right now though, Heikkinen should get the call for any injury call ups.
