Offseason Questions: What Is Going On With Michael Sauer?

On December 5th, Dion Phaneuf hit Michael Sauer and Sauer suffered a concussion.

Sauer was then placed on IR on 12/14. John Tortorella said on 12/19 that he wasn’t going to be with the team for a while.

In the month of January, it appeared that Sauer was making strides, symptom free, and working towards a return to the lineup.

Sauer suffered a setback near the end of January and in February John Tortorella said that he hadn’t seen Sauer in some time.

Adam: I imagine that there will be an update of sorts on Sauer during breakup day, but this is a big issue for the Rangers because even though Anton Stralman was good, they missed the steady presence of Sauer in the top four. They need to know what Sauer’s future holds as it will impact how the Rangers pursue defensemen during the offseason. Tim Erixon is a candidate to make the team next season and the team is likely hoping he would be the one to fill Sauer’s shoes if he isn’t able to return.
