Derek Stepan is third in the NHL with seven assists in the postseason and after not scoring a point in the first five games, Stepan has eight points in eight games.
He has 30 shots and 29 hits in close to 20 minutes of ice time a night.
During the series against Ottawa, John Tortorella said of Stepan, “He’s a smart enough player to know that he wasn’t getting it done. I think it’s a mindset of not over thinking it, it’s just a mental toughness that says ‘I’m going to make something happen here.’ Then I think things fall into place.”
Stepan played most of last night at even strength with Ruslan Fedotenko and Brandon Prust.
He picked up an assist on Marian Gaborik’s goal.
Stepan told the Daily News that he feels like he needs to step up and score a big goal for the Rangers.
