Note: The Rangers Need To Stop Having Too Many Players On The Ice

The Rangers lead the NHL in bench minors with four, all of which are too many men on the ice penalties.

About half the league has not taken a bench minor this season and only nine teams have taken more than one.

The Rangers have taken three straight too many men on the ice penalties and have been scored on each of them.

Last night on MSG, John Tortorella was asked about the Rangers taking those penalties and said that it was due to the players not paying enough attention to what is happening on the ice. Tortorella said, “It’s fairly easy to know what guy you are taking off the ice.”

The Rangers were whistled for that infraction while down 1-0 last night and Ryan McDonagh told the NY Times that “It was a heartbreaking feeling” to have that bad line change when the team knew they were just an ugly goal away from tying the game up,

Marc Staal said on the post game show that he couldn’t explain why they were happening so frequently, but that no matter the reason they need to stop.

John Tortorella publicly called out Carl Hagelin after the win over the Flyers for taking one of these penalties.
