NEWS: Steve Eminger Out Eight To Ten Weeks

According to Pat Leonard of the Daily News, Steve Eminger will be out 8-10 weeks due to a separated shoulder suffered on Saturday night against Phoenix.

The Rangers didn’t have a lot of depth on defense to begin with and now are without three of their top six defensemen for at least a month, with Marc Staal being the closest to coming back and he isn’t even that close yet. A lot will fall on Anton Stralman and Jeff Woywitka, if healthy, otherwise Tim Erixon gets another chance to show what kind of talent he has.

A lot will fall on the forwards to continue to backcheck and work in the defensive zone. There is inexperience and players that John Tortorella may not entirely trust about to play big or bigger minutes.

It was a good day.  Finally an organization. Filled in 3 position players with some $ left over out of an inflated market.  Had a good draft and now have a blend of youth and veterans and Melo ... will a least contest every game.   Leybrie...Phils last draft stash is here.......Hernongomez ...next years stash.....will help get over no pick next year[thanks Glen]....Westchester will continue to play role.....Credit Phil for Westchester......

Now...just basketball.

The Knicks have sucked since 2000 and NYC isn't as interesting as it used to be. Oh, and Dolan is still at MSG. Nobody useful's coming here.

It's like Knicks fans never learn. The reason the Spurs have been good for 20 years is because they draft well and they value there cap. The best move u can make is sometimes the move u don't make. Because in the nba one move can hold your franchise back 3-5 years. And the Spurs never make bad signings.

They would never spend 55 million on Lopez and they would have realized they can find a role player just as good if not better than Williams for half the price.

It seems like the Mavericks and the heat every year are able to move there cap space or they have cap space to go after big name guys. Meanwhile the Knicks have cap space once every 4 years cause the second they have cap space they spend it all. The lakers aren't doing anything cause they didn't get what they want no one out there is worth it they'll save there cap and try and pair durant and Noah together next year with Russell and Kobe. Or they will go after second tier guys that are good value like the Knicks did with afflalo.

The worst thing to be in the nba is a mediocre team with no cap space u either want to be great or really bad.

We have 3 million in cap space left and our cap next year is limited because of meloLopez, afflalo and Williams. I guarantee you being able to pair a max player with another max player during free agency next summer will appeal to them more than the over priced c players we have.

John Munro
John Munro

This team will miss the playoffs and won't have nearly as much cap space to offer as the lakers do next year so I bet u the lakers have a much better off season next year because of the moves they didn't make this year. The key was become respectable while not wasting money on players it was all about getting value or nothing

jeandd323
jeandd323

@John Munro You want us to be like the 76ers and the Lakers which save their cap space and stay putrid year in and year out.

Phil put some thought process  behind his moves. Rome was not built in 1 day and we are not going to win the Championship in 1 year. We have to be competitive first in order to attract good free agent talent. I believe we will be better with the new players we have added.

The moves Phil made are not bad from a cap point of view. He has bought low on Affalo and DWil with tremendous upside benefits if the stars line up for us. Both players have incentives to excel because they are on short term contracts.

On Robin Lopez, he had to be the $$$ given the market for big men. If Shump can command 10M/year, Chandler 12+/year, paying 12+ for R Lopez is not bad.

Anthony Gaetano DeCesare
Anthony Gaetano DeCesare

the Knicks had to use their cap space this summer because next year they don't have a draft pick Toronto has the next draft pick so y you just can't give Toronto a free lottery pick the Lakers do have their own pick next year

I really hope they throw Porzingis in fire and start him day one. Bc right now they don't have a starting 4. Let's see what the kids got from day one.

Me too! Well he played with MEN, not boys at 15 yrs old and I love his CONFIDENCE!

Fellas EZ UP! Let Phil get whoever he chooses and pass judgment later after you see some games. No need to STRESS! Smh

Just Linder on the inconsistent play of the players we had who IQ wasn't much to speak for

knicks2016
knicks2016

@Stacey Pickett  I am passing judgement on Phil trading for Calderon...that is his one truly bad move thus far.  Williams is not a bad player and he is still young.  Phil overall has done a good job overall.  He had a good draft.  Getting Afflalo and Lopez were good move!

Stacey Pickett
Stacey Pickett

Yeah! I agree. That was a bad gamble on Phil looking for a veteran just to unload Chandler! Not all GM's is going to be SPOT ON! Calderon did have a bad season

John Munro
John Munro

Calderon is his only bad move?

Getting nothing for shumpert and jr smith was a bad move when Mongov was worth 2 first rounders. The cavs just game shump 50 million so clearly they really liked him

Signing melo was a bad move. Signing melo to draft porzingis was a bad move.

Declaring we where a playoff team last summer was a bad move

Giving robin Lopez 4 years at 13 a year is bad.

The only move I like is afflalo and it's not because i like afflalo but I think 16 million is good value

And Calderon was a very bad move chandler was a free agent we should have had an extra 15 million to play with this summer instead we have Calderon.

jeandd323
jeandd323

@John Munro Think for a moment :

With Monroe, LA and DJ off the table, what could Phil do? Plan C was to get RLopez which he did. You cannot blame him for that.

He knew he was not going to pay Shump. If he did not give him away for nothing, he would have been stuck with JR contract and lose Shump anyway.

Calderon, that is other story. I think that is a mistake too.

Sources: Derrick Williams agrees to 2-year, $10 million deal with Knicks. Player option for second year

knicks2016

@Stacey Pickett

I don't see how we give Derrick Williams $5 mill per year?  I wanted him for about $2 mill.

Stacey Pickett
Stacey Pickett

Here we go! Phil flip them later so why you tripping! I told you that PHIL DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU, and me neither!

knicks2016
knicks2016

@Stacey Pickett

Williams is a tweener.  Not quick enough to play SF and not big enough to play PF.  I don't like those tweeners.

Stacey Pickett
Stacey Pickett

Maybe Phil believe he can work out fine in the Triangle. Have you ever thought that maybe Phil has his own plan? WTF

knicks2016
knicks2016

@Stacey Pickett  I know Phil has a reason.  I just watch all teams, unlike most guys on here.  Williams is a tweener and I would prefer a lot of other guys over him.  We don't have an experience PF on the roster.

Anthony Gaetano DeCesare
Anthony Gaetano DeCesare

Its interesting.....he wants players with high IQ's as far as veterans, then he is taking young dudes that were 5 draft picks that haven't made it in the NBA because of poor coaching.....interesting opportunity for williams....so we have about 2 million in cap space and a few trade exceptions the 5.9 JR smith one being the one to watch as far as making a trade goes and the room exception for 2.8 million.

Stacey Pickett

Okay I can respect your opinion. But can you at least consider this guy surprising you😏

There are so, so many fans who like players who put up empty statistics. There are ways to identify those players. They aren't worth it. ~Chris Herring~

I totally agree with Chris and many of you TRIPPIN and WHINING like ITCHES! Phil is being wise based on who is willing to come and if they don't then SO BE IT!

Stacey Pickett
Stacey Pickett

Because Phil can! You don't get it either! Phil don't give a DAMN ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK!

manchu
manchu

Oh goodness I don't get it.. what do folks fail to understand about cap space??? It mean NOTHING if players don't take the money being offered. Ive seen arguments about freeing up 50 million in cap space.. so what??? You think Durants coming??? If it was that easy LA would've signed here day one.. or Jordan for that matter.. players have to WANT TO COME HERE!!!! period.

Stacey Pickett
Stacey Pickett

Dude, not all players have HEART to deal with fans like you is why they stayed away! We only need one! So stop whining like an ITCH!

John Munro
John Munro

Just because u miss out on some stars means nothing it's better to have cap space than to have no cap space because u overpaid for players that aren't worth it

Overpaying for players is the worst thing you can do in the nba. If you want to compete u have to scout well. Find guys like Galloway and good role players for cheap that fit a role hope porzingis develops into something and if he does and u have cap space stars will want to come here. The problem is stars don't beleive we no how to build a winner because we always waste money

John Munro
John Munro

U can still get good players. Phil Jackson needs to find a way to become a playoff team with cap space just like the Raptors and the bucks.

If we win 17 games ya no one will come here. And if we have a bunch of overpaid players will never win anything.

The key to lee and rondo was we would probably be a .500 playoff team. Now where respectable we didn't just win 17 games we made it to the playoffs and we have 50 million with melo and the nba seeing how good porzingis is so now they beleive they can win here. Aldridge went to meet with Miami cause he believes in them

John Munro
John Munro

Right now the Knicks are a joke and Lopez and afflalo don't turn that around. Who cares if u sign players and don't win. If u do that ur stuck with bad contracts like amare and u can't compete for 3-4 years. U don't just sign players and waste money cause u have it

manchu
manchu

@Stacey Pickett  if that was addressed at me try reading what I said again... The ones complaining about eating up cap space is what im confused about.. cap space means nothing if no one signs. that's my point.. you don't know me so I don't get the "fans like me" comment if it was in fact addressed to me

jeandd323
jeandd323

@manchu That is why Job 1 is  to build a respectable team capable of making the playoffs. That is the reality of today's NBA. When you are 1 or 2 pieces away, u bring on the right free agents to fill up the gaps. The trick is to do it in a way which does not compromise the future - aka Nets.

Phil is trying to do Job 1
