NEWS: Rangers Trade for 6th Round Pick and Draft Peter Ceresnak

The New York Rangers have traded their 2012 6th round pick to Nashville for their 6th round pick (172) this year.

With this pick, the Rangers select Slovak defenseman Peter Ceresnak (Slovakia-Jr. Trencin Jr.)

Ceresnak is 6-3, 209.

He was ranked 161 by Future Considerations.

More about Ceresnak here

Seems like a defensive defenseman and a low risk pick that can develop over in Slovakia. The Rangers traded to get him, so they must know or like something about him.

Over 300 posts for a once proud franchise that many fans remain loyal to despite the circus. I wonder why there has never been much said by the alumni re. Wang and what their thoughts really are. Aside from the poor treatment to Lafontaine, I've not heard much. I don't know of any other organization that remains so secretive or mysterious with its fan base. IMO, Wang brings it upon himself with his actions and deserves the wrath of the fans with his "it's my ball and and if you don't like the way I play, I'm going home and taking the ball with me" attitude. He's done nothing to smooth over relationship win fans, which would go a long way. He refuses to do so and we can only hope that either he changes (not happening) team personnel changes and team starts winning. He is an enigma, a spoiled and arrogant man. I've been going to games since 1977, I will continue to support them but I will not be putting any of my hard earned $$ in Wangs pocket until he either:

1. Changes his atrocious management style (not happening)

2. Sells Team (praying for)

What a shame...that we have to endure the Wang and Garth puppet show...It is beyond brutal...And the sad thing is... there is no end in sight...Wang is a twisted person...You know he is not going to sell the team and he just wants to leave the fans out there hanging in the wind..ugghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a side note. Just noticed that Trevor gillies played for abbotsford heat which is Calgary flames farrm team!! Does he make it back to the NHL?? You know Burke wants a tough team and I could see this happen. I live in Calgary and by no means am I a fan of this team but I would love to see Trevor back and if it's in my home town I would be estatic

dimaio34
dimaio34

Oh and if we are out of it. Go out on a nasty note. Sit regin. Play Boulton. You know Martin and Clutterbuck will be on edge. Put carkner in and just play all out nasty. Ruin the games for the other team. Hey maybe get gallant and halmo to. Cause a distyrbance

dimaio34
dimaio34

I would however ship Nabby. Play Poulin and Nilsson fo r the backup job next year. This all gets decided this week if they lose 2 of 3. Then trade Nabby get Poulin and Nilsson together tell them the plan and play the rest of the year out

It's Sunday morning And we are 10 points out of a playoff spot. Maybe 11 if det beats wash today. Also Calgary won last night. Florida and calgary are 1 point behind us in league standings. It's quite possible by the break we might be 27 or 28 in the league. Another losing streak did it. Just punched in the gut right now. I've been optimistic all along but this is a huge up hill climb. Lots of teams will be calling about trades. Still wouldn't do it. We need VANEK. Amac is the shot block leader and has been a trooper for this team. Yup I know lots of mistakes. But who hasn't made mistakes? I'm not for picking apart people. But Garth better pick it up in the offseason. We are one season from Brooklyn and we don't wanna be a last team in our new digs. Anyways I'm at a load right now. So I'm upbeat and looking at ekblad now. What else do I do? Tough for all of us right now. And for the last time. CALL UP ANDERS LEE!!!!!!!!!!

Force might be too strong a word but I'm sure Ratner wants a better product then the Islanders are currently once the move is made to Bklyn. I don't know what Wang's game plan is but I assume it"s too increase the value of the franchise once the move to Bklyn is made in order too get the maximum return if the team (hopefully) is sold. The only way this will be accomplished is if he's willing to get off the cap floor and bring in players that will lift this team out of mediocrity!

Put a fork in them their done! Boyes has more goals then Bailey and Grabner combined. Snow is the worst GM in professional sports. Never mind the budget restraints look at Billy Beane with the A's in baseball and look at what he's done. Look at the FA  Snow has signed, Marty Reasoner, Jay Pandolfo, Pierre Marc Bouchard, Peter Regin, Matt Carkner etc etc etc. I know alot of FA won't come to the Island but don't sign players just for the sake of it. There's no doubt in my mind that if Neil Smith had remained this team would be in the upper echelons of the NHL.  But Wang wanted a "yes" man so this team is a rudderless ship in the NHL seas! Hopefully Ratner will force Wang"s hand before the move to Bklyn!

What a sucky time for the top line to lose it's MOJO!

When Bailey skated in on Lundqvist last night and had Lundqvist at his mercy with a wide open net and shot the puck completely over the net i knew this guy is lost. Grabner also did the exact thing i think in the 2nd period. I hate to give up on Bailey but i feel he's been given an ample opportunity with the Islanders. Some players just can't perform playing in New york.

@tomba the thing that concerns me is a lot of fans think that it will all change once the move to Brooklyn occurs. Why? Why do we think that a new building will make Charles Wang a rational actor? How does a new building improve the Islanders awful scouting? How does a new building change the fact that our GM is in over his head? So I'm with you in that I put the blame directly on Mr. Wang's shoulders. I'm not optimistic as long as he remains the owner. I love the sport and love the Islanders despite all the nonsense, but I don't see success on the horizon. Sucks.

Don22
Don22

@dimaio34 I would be shocked to see him in another NHL lineup.  Generally any goons in the NHL these days need to have at least some talent.

dkdk
dkdk

I hope that Ratner and company don't want a last place team in Brooklyn because you are far more optimistic than I am that wang cares about where the team sits. He is getting a guaranteed sum of money from the Barclays boys and that is his Stanley Cup.

@orange2327 Well theres the question, "what do you think we can get from them" and then theres the question "What can garth snow get from them"......he always seems to get fleeced

tag1
tag1

@orange2327 3 goals in 6 games saying they need offense is a understatement, let's see if their GM addresses their needs

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns Also I was watching the NHL Network the other day and they had a list of the top 5 goal tending coaches in the NHL and surprise surprise the Isles goal tending coach (snow's buddy) wasn't on the list.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns So who is to blame for that? Who didn't upgrade the goal tending in the off season, us fans? You post items on here that condemn management then you defend them. The goal tending was not good during that early season losing streak and that early season losing streak will cost them the playoffs this season.

bubbamac19
bubbamac19

@rmreturns

interesting, but to achieve an average save percentage behind that defense would require stellar goaltending, of course, that's not to say the Isles couldn't benefit from better goaltending, but the entire defense is an early work in progress. Many of us agreed that this was the year to see what Poulin had to offer. I think they need to play him the rest of the way and make a determination.

Isleguy27

How would Ratner force Wang's hand?

Isleguy27

Didn't see Strome's name in the lineup, what's the word on him? Anyone?

@dkdk

The Islanders were nothing more than part of Chuck Wang's Three-card-Monte game...

We the fans - and paying customers, we're never winning this one, DK

I'm not optimistic either, unfortunately. Unless Wang gets his measly hands involved in another "venture/hobby" and needs the $$ a sale of franchise would bring. Blows my mind what we have put up with. I hope someone can influence this guy or he trips himself up so bad the Feds actually catch him.

@tag1 @rmreturns Dude, he's reaching now, getting desperate, but its just about the time for him to shine. He can talk all the prospects and draft picks he want, cause that's about all we have left again. Another year down the drain.

dkdk
dkdk

Tag .... Let's let snow draft a dozen goalie before being so hard on him for not uncovering one yet. I mean every GM gets to draft for 10-12 years before being called out right?

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 Why don't you go visit your hero madoff in jail then help DP shine his Olympic gold medal.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 I guess he feels like a lot of us that the goal tending situation should have been dealt with in the off season, but you being a shill for the owner and GM can't see that, right madoff?

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 Example Isles are last in the league in PK that is a negative fact, get it?

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns Botta's tweet states that snow had a "brutal offseason", something you won't admit, and you don't know what that has to do with the goal tending situation?

You can't be this dumb, I hope you are just playing stupid.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1@dkdk If a guy is looking to be a #1 goalie why would he go to a team that already has one. Look how Marty is pouting in NJ because he is being replaced by Schneider and once again teams have budget's they don't want to waste money on players they don't need. You can't face the fact and admit your pal snow failed this off season. This was tweeted by Botta before:

"Yes, I'm well aware Strome demotion isn't the primary reason Isles remain out of the playoff hunt. Snow had a brutal offseason."

Go tell him your list of excuses for snow this off season and see what he tells you.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 Opinions on prospect pools is SPECULATION, these list's are facts and are a indication on how good or bad a job the organization is doing, judging by their track record over the past 21 years, not so good.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @dkdk That's a great strategy you have there considering there's a salary cap and teams have budgets, pick up players you don't need.

tag1
tag1

@dkdk Players that we need dk are just supposed to appear out of thin air, don't you know that by now, this GM is not responsible for the personnel on this team.

dkdk
dkdk

@tag and @rm .....

Just wanted to note some fuzzy math which is a strong suit of wang mind you. But how can it be claimed 28 other teams missed on Bishop when probably 24-25 didn't need a goalie? If fact a couple have 3 goalies.

Khodobun has been stellar also which was not noted as well.

And not to be too realistic or anything but maybe after 7 years we could have had a real goalie prospect in our system already?

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns It seems anytime the Isles make a top 5 or top 10 list under this regime it's a negative list, I highly doubt snow's buddy is a well respected coach around the league but I'm sure you feel he's doing a wonderful job.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 I don't know of any Isles fan who thought that DP had won a gold medal in his career until you came along, for a know it all you really are a clown.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 You're the one who brought up the other response on another thread madoff, now go help DP shine his Olympic gold medal that you said he won. hahaha moron.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns @tag1 I was making a point about how forwards can be more important then D men at killing penalties which obviously went over your head and can you blame me and others for living in the past considering the crap we have been force fed by inept and corrupt ownership the past 21 years?

Yes with above average goal tending the Isles would be in a playoff spot and if you're blaming the D well that's on the GM just like the goal tending either way your boy snow loses.

I would have needed the contact info for the Vancouver GM (which snow has) in order to have made a deal with him and to see what he would have settled for, not my job to make trades and fill needs that's snows job.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns You forgot Schneider put him on the Isles this season and they are probably in a playoff spot right now, once again you make excuses for snow, what else is new.

I have no clue what you mean with your last paragraph, maybe you should have posted your response there so I could tell what you are blabbering about.

What a novel concept, actually allowing for players to excel in the minor-leagues before promotion to the NHL...

But, from the "Organization" that gave you the spectacle of DiPietro "Working off rust" for 3 years, you should expect a few seasons of Poulin "Learning the ropes" in the NHL
