News: Rangers Sign Jason Arnott

6:31PM: Al Trautwig said on the broadcast that while it is being widely reported, the Rangers have nothing to announce right now.

Elliotte Friedman writes that the Rangers needed depth at forward and this provides it. He also says that he thinks the Flyers were trying to sign Arnott as well.

Arnott, 38, is flying to NYC and will take his physical tonight.

He is reunited with Glen Sather who drafted him in 1993.

The Rangers have had interest in Arnott over the past few years.

6:16PM: According to Darren Dreger and Katie Strang, the Rangers have signed Jason Arnott.

His cap hit will be $1.6 million.

Over the last three seasons Arnott has averaged about 18 goals a year and over the last two years he has put up nearly identical stats of 17 goals and 14 assists and 17 goals and 17 assists.

He had six power play goals last season and averaged 14:05 for the Blues.

In the playoffs he had one goal and averaged close to 11 minutes a night. He is 6-5, 220 and only had 24 hits and 13 blocked shots.

Back in July, 52% of readers said that they wouldn’t mind seeing Arnott with the Rangers.
