NEWS: Chris Drury NOT On Waivers Today

Update: 4:47PM:

Larry Brooks tweets that a player with a no-movement clause can elect not to go on waivers before being bought out.

So that should mean that the Rangers can still buy him out before Thursday at 5PM

Update: 3:41PM:

Jesse Spector has more on this at the Daily News

Update: 2:37PM:

Zipay also says “My understanding is that a player with a no-move clause must be notified 24 hours before a buyout and can accept or request a waiver”

Original Post: 12:39PM

Steve Zipay and Andrew Gross both tweet that the Rangers have not placed Chris Drury on waivers today.

This is a bit of a shock, at least to me.

Today was the deadline for the Rangers to put Drury on waivers to buy him out before Thursday’s deadline.

It was reported over the weekend that Drury was likely to accept the Rangers buyout.

Viktor Faisth to the Edmonton Oilers, hey nothing like making smart moves to shore up your goal

The only teams who'd be interested in Vanek are veteran teams close to winning a Cup whose window is closing. That's basically San Jose, Vancouver, and to a lesser extent, Washington and Philadelphia. From all those teams, only Philadelphia is fiscally irresponsible and prone to dumb trades. Plus, Garth is a former Cryer and probably tight with Paul Holmgren. If they offer Couturier, a prospect and a pick, what would you guys think?

Hard to believe that Ben Bishop was traded to the Lightning last season for Cory Conacher and a 4th rd pick and Conacher is currently on waivers.

This whole Vanek and AMac is not even on the NHL radar of moves.  Garth going to be left holding his puck bag and stick. Sad...very sad...

I'm hearing more and more that these big teams aren't overpaying for rentals, period.  Fellow fans be ready for a massive letdown.

Cory Conacher placed on waivers.

From Pierre LeBrun on the ESPN site:

"The eve of the trade deadline began Tuesday with most of the high-end, rental players still in play.

Thomas Vanek, Matt Moulson, Mike Cammalleri, Marian Gaborik and Ales Hemsky, all pending UFA wingers, remained on the trade block, a departure in some ways from the last few years when many of the rentals went days before the deadline.

Remember Brenden Morrow, Jarome Iginla and Jaromir Jagr all moved before the actual deadline day a year ago.

There's a pretty simple answer to it all. As one NHL GM of a contender told ESPN.com Monday night, the prices needed to go down before he would consider any of those rentals.

Is this the year the buyers keep their sanity?
Who knows, all it takes is one of those rentals to move Tuesday and the domino effect might take place."

If the isles intend to trade Vanek and MacDonald by tomorrow is there any reason why you would play them tonight? What benefit is there to playing them?

It's a foregone conclusion that Garth has already screwed this up. It's just a matter of how bad it's gonna be. When buffalo gets more for moulsen than we do for vanek I'm gonna rip my hair out of my head. First Niño, now this debacle. He has set us back at least a year with the niño trade and now we are left with the feeling of impending doom. I have a bad feeling that he won't even trade him because he has been so devalued. He can't come back and say hey the best I could do is a third rounder in 2017. He's gonna punish vanek and make him stay here the rest of the year.. Btw amac is a p.o.s. Did you read his comments, that's our assistant captain.. No wonder it looks like nobody cares...

@Scott Weinstein   If the Islanders could some how pull off Couturier, a prospect and a pick i'd make absolutely sure i make it to church on Sunday.

Isleguy27
Isleguy27

I do that deal…absolutely. I think I would scratch the Canucks off your list and add LA and Anaheim.

Don22
Don22

@Scott Weinstein That would work for me.  Other than the fact that it's the Flyers, I see no reason why they would trade Couturier.

Vicp73

@Lyle Odelein  Are you sure your not getting Cory Conacher confused with Corey Potter? He was waived by the oilers today

Scott Weinstein
Scott Weinstein

@Lyle Odelein They had Lehner and Bishop and probably felt they had enough depth to move one of them. Too bad it was for a scrubby energy guy.

Scott Weinstein

@puckznpadz Garth has always been tight lipped. He had half the hockey world thinking he was going to draft Duchene or Hedman.

Ryan Sweeney
Ryan Sweeney

@puckznpadz  according to newsday, thats just because snow hasnt leaked any info..which i actually believe becuase this happens every year...we never hear a peep from him about who hes talked to etc.  i  would be shocked if they weren't both moved.

@tag1 I agree about not playing them.  But that's not how it's done unfortunately.  Even Buffalo is still putting MM out there.  I keep waiting for Vanek and Amac to collide and both get hurt.

@tag1  well, it's not the year garth kept his sanity when he was buying...

@Shannon Falotico Yeah, I could never understand why they gave Andrew Macdonald the  A, but I figured they knew something about him that we didn't see. Now I know it was only so they can justify calling him A-mac! Another brilliant move by the clueless coaching staff.

@Shannon Falotico Buffalo can get more for Moulson because the likelihood he signs with his new team is far greater than Vanek signing. Vanek increased his value a bit when he said that he wants to play for a winning team, until now it was widely assumed that he is going to Minni regardless. I am not so sure anymore.

I'd argue that it was more so the nino draft pick and not the nino trade. Can't blame him for dealing away a malcontent - or at least someone who was coming across as a malcontent. Besides, I like Clutterbuck's game. He just needs to be used right.

Bottom line with Garth is his drafts have not been great, aside from Tavares. The jury is still out on de Haan and Reinhart. His trades I can complain about. The bottom line is a bad team needs a good drafting GM and a great coach. We have neither. That's why he needs to go. His draft picks are the biggest indictment.

Scott Weinstein
Scott Weinstein

@Lyle Odelein I included Vancouver on that list because the window on the Sedins/Luongo era is closing and they've never won a Cup.

Scott Weinstein
Scott Weinstein

@Don22 The Flyers have Comcast billions and are a winning team, at least in the regular season. That should be enough to entice Thoma$ Vanek.

Isleguy27
Isleguy27

I guess my point was, couldn't the Isles have come up with a similar package to entice the Sens into shipping Bishop to Long Island.

Isleguy27
Isleguy27

I don't disagree with you, but how many GM's share their conversations about potential trades with the fans?

Shannon Falotico
Shannon Falotico

How was he a malcontent, because he didn't want to stay in the minors.. I would argue you want your best players to want to play, that's why we drafted him. We didn't draft him to be happy playing with Marty reasoner and jay pandolpho. I'm supposed to take Garth's side.. Your kidding me right? I like cal... He's ok.. But niño could have been lucic if properly handled..

Poulin/Nilsson need tons of work if either of them are any good!!

Ryan Sweeney
Ryan Sweeney

@Lyle Odelein  of course he could have, blows my mind that he didnt.

i know some people arent too high on scrivens either (not exactly sure why except for his limited nhl experience), but for a 3rd round pick, he is clearly a huge upgrade in goal.  not sure why we couldn't have beat that offer either.

Scott Weinstein
Scott Weinstein

@Lyle Odelein You're right, Lyle. I've would've given them Cizikas for Bishop. Guys like Cizikas are a dime a dozen. Garth was probably convinced Poulin and/or Nilsson would be our goalie of the future.

Don22
Don22

@Lyle Odelein I think it's obvious Garth underestimated Bishop.  I'm sure there were some other teams that missed that boat too.  I'm not as hard on Garth as others here may be, but this one I do agree was a missed one for sure.

Ryan Sweeney
Ryan Sweeney

@Lyle Odelein  yeah im not sure exactly why other teams info gets leaked and not the isles? but it does seem to be a consistent thing with snow so hopefully that is the case and he will pull off atleast a decent deal.  cant say im not getting nervous as the trade deadline looms though.

We're losing focus..we're about to be robbed again and it's making me nuts

Shannon Falotico

You must have no idea if you think cluterbuck is part of the solution...

Don22
Don22

@Shannon Falotico Hard to say that the Nino trade sets the Isles back a year.  He's not Crosby.  He was a malcontent in that he wasn't getting what he wanted, and instead of fighting through it and proving the team wrong he sulked, didn't produce and ultimately asked out.  It's not like he had been languishing in the minors for 4-5 years. You can say he played with inferior talent, but he still showed nothing.  He was left in the AHL in a lockout season because they felt he wasn't putting effort into all aspects of his game.  There's nothing wrong with your players wanting to play. But when you are 20 years old, sometimes you just have to wait for your time to come.  He didn't want to wait and quit on his team instead.  I don't want that on my team and you shouldn't too.  He's already down to 3rd line wing behind Matt Cooke right now.  I've read that he is already losing confidence of the team.  What does that say?

He was drafted too high and should have gone between 10 - 15 or so.  If you want to pan Garth on anything on Nino, say he reached for him and made a bad pick.

Shannon Falotico
Shannon Falotico

Your defending that trade and you want to know if I watch hockey.... Tomorrow when vanek is gone for a third rounder you'll tell me paved datsyuk was a seventh rounder so you never know.... Wake up and smell last place

Shannon Falotico
Shannon Falotico

Every time I look at him he agitates me... But maybe your ok with trading top end talent for a mike halmo type... Like my dad told me you can't argue with crazy..

Ryan Sweeney
Ryan Sweeney

@Shannon Falotico  "do you even watch hockey"

hes not a fighter, he is an agitator and does that part of his job very well.

isles pk is not worse in the league because of their PK forwards. ill let your hockey knowledge figure out the reason their PK, and their record, is so bad.

Shannon Falotico
Shannon Falotico

7 goals this year... Worst Pk in the league... Never fights

isles23

@Shannon. Lucic is the definition of a power forward, a Clark Gillies type. Will score a goal and punch you in the face as he does so. Nobody denies Ninos talent and potential to score but he is not fighting anyone. We question his heart and attitude. Clutterbuck is an elite penalty killer, hitter, and agitator, along with potting 10-20 goals. He brings a lot to the table.

shlo
shlo

@Shannon Falotico The question is does he have the drive? the mental end of the equation. As you said only time will tell.

Shannon Falotico
Shannon Falotico

How is that funny.. Do you watch hockey. He has the same body type and skill set.. I guess time will tell who is right.. But I know one thing, if cluterbuck reaches his full potential he could be mike halmo.. Laugh about that...

@Shannon Falotico: Lucic? Now who's kidding around.
