Jon Brightbill: When is the buyout period and do you see any Rangers being bought out?
The first buyout period is slated to start on June 15th and run until June 30th. The buyout period can not start for 48 hours until after the Stanley Cup final has been completed.
The second buyout period runs from July 20th to August 6th. To get to the second buyout period, the Rangers will need to file for arbitration against one of their players.
Last season the Rangers bought out the final year of Chris Drury’s contract.
Adam Rotter:I don’t see the Rangers having the need to buy anyone out like they did with Chris Drury last year. Most everyone who is under contract for next season is a pretty key guy in their role. People may ask about Brandon Dubinsky being bought out, but he would stay on the Rangers cap for six more seasons, per cap geek. It would save the Rangers $2.3 million this season (cap hit of $1.9 million) and $3.2 million the following two (cap hit of $1 million), but carry a cap hit of $1.45 million from 2015 to 2018.
