Matthew P: I hear that Calgary wants to move Jay Bouwmeester. Do you think that the Rangers would want him? He might be cheaper to get than Yandle and definitely cheaper to get than Weber.
Bouwmeester, 28, is signed for two more years with a cap hit of $6.6 million. From 2005 to 2009, Bouwmeester did not have fewer than 37 points in a season. Since being traded to Calgary three years ago, Bouwmeester has not scored more than 29 points in a season. He has not score more than five goals in a season over the last three years after scoring over 10 in the previous three years.
Bouwmeester has averaged around 26 minutes a night over the last three seasons and hasn’t been under 25 minutes a game since his second season.
He is also a lefty shot.
Adam Rotter: The idea of adding someone who plays that much consistently is really intriguing, but it’s offset by his cap hit and the big drop in his offensive numbers since he went to Calgary. He has a no-trade clause and may not want to leave his home Province of Alberta. The idea of a change of scenery for him is appealing, but I don’t think it’s appealing enough with that cap hit.
