James Dolan Wants To Play Hockey

At the Rangers Dog Walk yesterday, Rangers owner James Dolan gave a rare public comment to ESPNNY’s Katie Strang.

While Gary Bettman has reportedly threatened large fines, supposedly up to $1 million against owners speaking about the lockout, Dolan told Strang “The only thing I can say is that I want us to play hockey.”

Rangers assistant captain Brad Richards told Strang, “We just want to play. We just want to get it figured out. From my experience last time, no one even talked at this point. I don’t even know if anyone talked for a while into the lockout, so, a lot of people are trying to figure things out right now.”

The last time James Dolan spoke publicly about the Rangers was when he said that the Rangers are “close” to the Stanley Cup.

Yes we can make it easy I think. If the offense makes any leaps this yr we will win 12. Rex needs to stay win lose or draw for another ten yrs. He will build great teams like bill cowher did. Gotta give these guys time. Period. And 6 yrs giant enough when four were under a terrible gm

Hey guys. Haven't posted in awhile. I agree w Rex. Anything less than playoffs is a huge disappointment Great coaching staff great defense. If smith can't improve we have a guy behind him who can play. No reason we can't win 10. Catch a break or get a bounce ? Maybe 11 Go jets.

Rex is a good coach. I would expect no less than that prediction from him.

They better! No excuses this time!

Last year's record should well have been 6-10.

The passing game stunk both on offense and defense and the Special Teams returns and coverage didn't help either.

Besides questions about the OL line, it seems every other aspect should improve - especially our weakest areas from last year.

Perhaps Rex can put together a 9-7 or 10-6.  He and MM are going to have to coach like hell to get it done.

at least he didn't predict winning the SB, now the team may have a chance

Surprised he's not saying they'll win the Superbowl. Just like his old man, all talk, can never back it up.

If they have intelligent running plays and none pressure passing plays (or not so much) well be ok lol.....

dont see why not isn't that the goal to make the playoffs and maybe win a super bowl i dont understand what do u want a coach to say and its not like they didnt add some nice pieces the jets upgreaded at WR and RB and the defence will be there also

Does that mean if Rex goes 8-8 he consents to being fired?

This is a tougher schedule than last year.

I would be happy with 8-8, even if they don't make teh play offs.

All I ask is ...

1 - a lot of improvement from Geno

2 - a lot of improvement from Dee Miliner

3 - a lot of improvement from Brian Winters

4 - a few of the draftees to turn out to be pretty good.

:-)

8-8 is still an improvement from last year's 8-8 because of strength of schedule. But I think this team is capable of atleast reaching 9-7, which would be a huge improvement all things being considered, and making the wild card spot.

Ok, time wrap up the farm! It has been a long a day, and now time to start getting ready for the ESPN fights. Spicy Mexican food, brews, a couple of amigos coming over, and last but not least ,loaded nachos! So I will be bloviating for the next 24 hours! Thank the farm above for open windows, lol Peace out my Gangrels!

I am packing it in tonight. No one from FB gets back to my comments! I miss Brendan telling me to STFU, LOL. You never realize what you lost until you lose it!

Pretty comical to read fans criticizing Rex for saying "I’m confident we will be a playoff team." I see nothing wrong at all with this statement

I like Rex a lot, but he really needs to just shut up and focus on coaching the team, rather than making these robust remarks all the time.

Rex is putting high-expectations on himself. Why is that a bad thing?

I'd rather have a coach come out and say he expects to make the playoffs (which could hurt his own job security) than have some spiel about, "We will try hard and compete, yada, yada, yada."

Good for Rex. That takes balls.

This is the other reason why I come here. I like to see how strong my brain cells are by submitting them to this kind of utter stupidity and see if they can withstand the torture

@McGeorge

If your wish list becomes a reality, we're talking upwards of 10 -6.

Less a kick, more a motivation.  Al Davis said it best.  "Just win, baby!"   The accolades and recognition will follow.

@idothis2

Agree.  This is not like Rex guaranteeing a Super Bowl or some of the other bombastic comments he's made in past.   He's hopefully optimistic...like the rest of us.   Besides, I think most of us on TJB would agree with him...albeit with some fair-sized 'ifs' qualifying our optimism.

UncleJoesJetFarm

@idothis2 Especially when he put the rebuilding and transition season into his speech. The cat is finally catching on!

UncleJoesJetFarm
UncleJoesJetFarm

@williamg1   Balls? He threw in a rebuild year and transition year into his speech. He is learning from Idzik, finally learning to cover his arse and that is a good thing. Maybe after football, Rex will go into politricks, lol

Paul Samuels

@williamg1 It puts unwarranted pressure on the players to succeed when maybe the younger players aren't so ready to do so.

I don't agree here with Rex....Rex is providing other teams with motivation.....He has a young team and he is adding pressure on the team which has to back up his words....Rex hasn't gotten any smarter...That is for sure

bradysucks

@Paul Samuels @williamg1

Agree...why put more pressure on your own team that is so dependent on rookies and youngsters?....Rex is not being smart here in my opinion....This bravado from Rex makes no sense to me

Paul Samuels
Paul Samuels

@bradysucks It made the most sense in 2010 when at least there was more veteran players on the team.

UncleJoesJetFarm
UncleJoesJetFarm

@bradysucks Didn't Rex admit that he put unneeded pressure on the team a year or two ago and said he learned from that?

bradysucks
bradysucks

@williamg1 @bradysucks

Never said other teams NEED Rex's comments to be motivated when they go against the Jets......but Rex gives it to them anyway....Why give anybody extra motivation? Why put extra pressure on your own young Jets team after your 3rd consecutive season missing the post season?

I don't think it is necessary.....
