Health: Avery’s Isn’t Expected Back

POSTGAME SOUNDS FROM JOHN TORTORELLA IS IN THE VIDEO PLAYER AT RIGHT

OP:Sean Avery was injured in the Rangers game in Toronto and has missed the Rangers last six games. Before last night’s game, John Tortorella told Steve Zipay of Newsday that it was unlikely that Avery would play again this season.

Avery has 11 goals and 20 assists this season.

…Avery hasn’t skated yet and its not any certain that he could return to the Rangers lineup if they make the playoffs. I have written before, without any medical knowledge at all, that he hurt his knee, ACL or MCL, and that injury keeps you out a while and sometimes requires surgery. Avery had been playing his best hockey before he got hurt and it took a little while for the Rangers to find their footing without him.

Now, Brandon Prust, Jody Shelley and his boy, Aaron “The Peoples Champ” Voros are filling in the Avery roles for the Rangers. It is a group effort and doesn’t replace Avery as a whole, but it has been working for the Rangers.
